GSP Vs. Hendricks

So I recently rewatched GSP Vs. Hendricks and I got to say Hendricks won that fight. I mean it was close and Hendricks wasn't really robbed, but I think there was no doubt it should've went in Hendricks favor. Now of course you say that pre Usada Hendricks was different and that may be true, but at the end of the day we don't really know if he was using or not...

GSP groupies in 3...2...1

I completely agree. I was at a friends house that night with about 5 or 6 people and everyone there thought Hendricks won that fight and all but 1 guy was going for GSP.

It was a close fight with Hendricks clearly winning 2 rounds, one very close round and GSP slightly winning the other 2 rounds. Hendricks did more damage for sure and in the street that's no contest GSP got beat. The fight shows the problem with the way the scoring system is set up.

I think we know.

I basically agree with you on all points, with one added. Hendricks probably won, but it was close. It wasn’t an outrageous robbery. And in retrospect, It would have been a shame for GSP to have a loss to Hendricks undermine his legacy when everybody close to the fight knew Hendricks was juicing, tried their damnedest but failed to get him to fight clean only afterwards to see the bottom drop out of his career when USADA hit.

Don’t get me wrong. Hendricks was a good fighter, and it’s certainly plausible that GSP was also juicing at times–there’s speculation–but that is something we should acknowledge we don’t know.

good post. agree on every single word.

Honestly I think they were both on some kind of PED & Hendricks won a very close fight.... Johnny fell way off after that but GSP left the sport so who knows....   I also believe whatever they were using helped Johnny way more than gsp lol, like I feel it's pretty obvious gsp is the better fighter and if all things were equal he'd win 8/10 at least.....

I think the general perception is Hendricks clearly won 2 out of 5 rounds. GSP won 2 very close rounds. And 1 round was a coin flip. Judging the fight as a whole you give it to Hendricks. Judging the fight round bye round (as the UFC does) you could have gave it to either. And as the old saying goes you gotta clearly beat the champ so I think the right decision was made. But yes controversial.

Hendrix was a cheating faggot

GSP 1,3,5.

GSP took the fight by edging out the last round that Hendricks coasted in a bit thinking he had it in the bag.

100% this. There's a longstanding belief in combat sports that to take the title from the champ, you have to beat him convincingly. If Hendricks had won a third round the way he won the other two rounds, he'd likely have become the champion himself. But the judges gave the close round to the guy with the title. It's happened that way many times.

This.

If Hendricks would have won, nobody would have been upset though. It was that close score wise…even though Hendricks clearly did more damage.

gsp may have eeked out 3 rounds, hendro won 2 rounds very clearly

in the end myself and most media outlets gave it to hendro

That longstanding belief was just bullshit to explain away the corruption in boxing.

Hey buddy, 2013 called and they want their fight back.

Seriously though, there has been countless threads on this.

It doesn't even matter anymore

Hendricks easily won that fight.  Idc what anyone says.  It was even more obviousl than Diaz beating Carlos Conduit

The corruption in boxing goes far beyond that. Judging is no doubt shitty/“pre-arranged” sometimes, but you don’t dethrone a champ in a “squeaker” of a fight.

Always thought Hendricks won that fight

One thing I would say is in rnd 5 of that fight GSP showed a ton of heart and took the fight to Johnny - which makes me think he knew he was behind

GSP nuthuggibg French Canadian checking in. Originally watched the fight live with 16 GSP lovers at my place. We thought we had all witnessed GSP lose his title.

I have since rewatched it a few times without commentary. I see GSP maybe winning 2 rounds but i can't give him 3.

In hindsight, knowing what I know now, I'm happy it worked out that way.

The ironic thing that nobody ever mentions is that in Johnny's next fight he won the interim belt in the same fashion that GSP beat him. Lawler kicked his ass in that fight, but Hendricks won on points in a couple of rounds where not much happened.....Thats the way I remember it anyway....was watching it live in Dallas.
