GSP's Mental Toughness....

This is one of the few weaknesses that GSP's opponents have and use against him...

Now of course it's a desperate attempt...

GSP in seeking out a sports psychologist proved his mental toughness but of course not many people understand this...the mentaly weak cannot be expected to...

GSP is so Mentaly strong and focused that he is turning the Dan Hardy situation (The fact Hardy has abseloutely no chance to defeat him) as another stepping stone to his great Career...The following quote below shows and proves the Menatl toughness and great Focuse this Incredible athlete has, we are truly wintnessing an MMA legend, let's Enjoy.

"For me I'm fighting the most dangerous guy I ever fought in my career," he said. "It's a chance for me to redeem myself where I failed last time in the same situation. I've never been so pumped for a fight. The loss I had against Serra, it's not really a loss against Serra because I fought him again and beat him. It was a loss against the situation. I'm in the same situation now, and I look at it like a redemption. It's a great chance to redeem myself, because I'm in a little bit of the same situation as I was when I fought Serra for the first time."

Yikes, wouldn't want to be the guy representing GSPs redemption.

For some of u who might not be able to understand or grasp this, and i am sure that is many, let me spell it out for U...

he quotes "The loss I had against Serra, it's not really a loss against Serra because I fought him again and beat him. It was a loss against the situation. I'm in the same situation now, and I look at it like a redemption"

The "situation" is the key here and i was very impressed when I read this, this for anyone who understands shows the Incredible Mental health and strenght GSP has....

What is funny is people talk about mental weakness when in fact this is what sets him apart form the rest...His Mental Strenght...lol

"Dis is da tuffest aight ova my cahrear."

Damn I need to learn to type Strength properly...lol

eltigre - Look, I love GSP and hope he smashes Hardy, but it's always the same crap with him. "toughest fight of my career" that's complete drivel! "it's like when you play cards- you don't show your hand" that was clever once, but now it's annoying. we know what GSP is holding in his hand- incredible wrestling ability and amazing conditioning.

I can't really take what GSP says before fights seriously- it all sounds like rehearsed babble that he's reading off a script. Hardy still doesn't stand a chance though

Please look at my posts, i have spelled it out for u....I knew some of u would only get the part of the opponent is toughest of my career....sheesh!!

I really hope GSP beats up the situation. I hate that guy and his gym/tan/laundry crap!

eltigre - Okay, so he is in the same situation as he was in in the first Matt Serra fight, correct? The situation of fighting a huge underdog that no one expects to win, but who can possibly pull it off.

The thing is, I don't understand how this proves mental toughness. In the rematch with Serra, Serra was the champ but was still considered a huge underdog. GSP ran the same risk of getting caught as he did the first time.

I think it takes much greater mental toughness to fight a guy like BJ Penn again (someone who gave GSP a real run for his money in their first fight, and has better boxing than Dan Hardy does which is Hardy's so-called "advantage"), or to fight a guy like Alves who has proven, destructive striking. I think that in those two fights, GSP proved how mentally tough he was.

But to say that this is a greater test of his toughness because Hardy is such an underdog- it's just not in my opinion. It's a test of GSP's work ethic to see if he will take this fight seriously. A real test of toughness would be when you fight an amazing opponent who possesses better skills than you in areas where you are considered weak (like Penn and Alves, who I mentioned). And, by those standards, I think that GSP has already passed that test. I think what he is saying as far as this fight being important to prove himself against "the same situation" is simply a canned response to hype a fight that few people are excited to see (relative to other possible match-ups). That is why I bring up the other canned responses, such as "toughest fight of my career," to illustrate that GSP is doing his job by selling us a fight.

You make good points and i think both situations of fighting guys like Penn and Alves and fighting huge underdogs show mental toughness....so i agree with your opinion also...

The funny part is Dan Hardy seeking out Serra has fueled GSP, does Hardy realize what he has actually done? lol...Bwahahah...

talk about digging your own grave!!!

disbeliever - He is not mentally weak

Dually noted...lol

I'm not so sure. A more agressive GSP probably plays into Hardy's gameplan more. That doesn't mean or suggest that Dan will be effective, just that he probably wants GSP to come after him.

what u say might be right but what have u seen from GSP that makes u think anything hardy has said will make GSP lose his focus? u certainly are not basing this on the past and GSP's history...it would be a first which is possible but grasping at straws and a desperate attempt realy.

YES!

Watching GPS's comeback after the first round pounding at the hands of Penn, convinced  me of GSP's mental toughness.  The way he dug in and just fought hard nosed MMA right back at Penn.  Most other fighters would have been mentally broke after a 1st round pounding like that.  GSP's face was all sorts of banged up, but he just kept attacking.  After that fight I was 100% convinced he had heart and  great mental toughness

Guys, I know its what we done around here but i think you're looking into stuff too much.

RIP Dan Hardy.

anybody who has to resort to cheating... needs to have their mental toughness questioned...

insecurity in your abilities speaks volumes of one's mental toughness...

GREASE-GATE will always haunt GSP

lol @ this guy falling for that Hawaiian propaganda!!

Grease-gate?? gtfo!

lol at hawaiian propaganda...

it's an uncontested fact that he cheated.
he's just lucky...kizer is in the UFC side pocket
