I am in the market for a lever action 30/30. I have shot the marlin ($469) and liked it just fine, but the Rossi Rio Grande is on sale at bass pro for $399, usually around $599.
Anyone own a Rossi? I don't want to risk it if I have no insight, but it is a hell of a price drop so I want to at least ask you guys.
"Not that whore Janice Rossi"
If it's a Marlin 336 you're talking about and is only $70 more, I'd go with the Marlin.
Right on, thanks Pat.
Try to find a used Marlin with the JM stamp before buying a new one. Can't help with the Rossi because I know little about them. But the new Marlins aren't quite up to the quality of the ones prior to the Remington acquisition.

How long ago was the remington deal? Only one I have shot is from the 70s/80s and shoots great
I LOVE my marlin 45-70 pre Remington with home loads. But I also have a Rossi 454cassull and a ranch hand in .44 mag that are both very fun to shoot
I love my Marlin 30/30, and have never talked to anyone who doesn't agree. Also never heard anything bad about Rossi, but I've never tried their 30/30.
I have a little Rossi breach loading single shot that I bought for my daughter. All I can say is it's really nice. Well made, accurate and looks good. It's this one...

Never owned a Marlin.

What these people said.
I have a marlin 35 and a Winchester 30-30, I've never owned a Rossi. I've never had any issues with either gun.

Just take a cheap light and be sure to inspect the bore. Cabelas sells bore lights at a reasonable price. Also go over the gun and see if it has an acceptable amount of wear and tear.
