Gut question?

So, I haven't been able to do any cardio because of a lung problem which I've finally overcome. The result is a gut that looks like I've got a basketball under my shirt.

When I flex my abs, it looks like I have a 4-pack with a little spare tire. But the rest of the time, it looks like a big gut. It's very freaky to me. I'm just starting to workout again. Is that normal for a layoff of 10 months? Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks.

Diet and exercise :P Stomach fat is no different than other fat on your body, neither is the process for getting rid of it.

Thanks for the responses. Yeah, I figured since it took me 10 months to get like this, it will take me 10 months of good diet and exercise to get back to the way I was. Trying to be patient about it.

I have the same problem, inter abdominal fat. Its all inside the muscle wall, not on the outside. I've let myself get in terrible condition. I hate it, I look like I'm about to give birth.
