I love hearing about these. Lets seperate the men from the boys. Here's one:
Forrest Griffin gets his arm broken by Edson Paredao in the first minute of the fight. Comes back about a minute later and knocks Edson out with his good arm.
Who else? I'd like to know guys that went into fights with an injury or were injured during the fight but continued valiantly.
Actually, in 2001 2nd Pro Fight, Forrest fought in South Africa. Little did he know that the opponent was some SA freestyle champ and dumped him onto his right shoulder which separated. He said it was the worst pain he'd ever felt. He finished the fight, choked the dude....with that arm, then fell on the mat in pain.
His shoulder has never been the same and he fought Rua with it at it's worse. The Dr was amazed that he could throw a punch and he had surgery in October after that fight.
This is not even a contest for anyone who has seen this fight. Javier Vasquez vs Alberto Crane. Seconds into the fight Showtime blows his ACL (or something like that) and can't even stand up. But instead of covering up and waiting for the stoppage he fights on. Keep in mind he literally cannot stand up, he has to crawl back to his corner at the end of the rounds and sit on the floor while getting instructions. He goes all three rounds, and not only survives but generates offense. He ended up losing a split dec in Crane's hometown, but I honestly believed that Vasquez did enough to win the fight and not based on the fact he was injured. Regardless of if it was a win or a loss, it was by far the biggest display of heart and warrior spirit I have ever seen, and possibly will ever see in MMA.
"This is not even a contest for anyone who has seen this fight. Javier Vasquez vs Alberto Crane"...I saw that fight right after I tore my acl, it made my nuts ache everytime his leg buckled. there are no words for that kind of pain.
