I know the director, most of the stuntmen, and a few of the main actors all trained at Gym Jones but I was of the understanding that the actor who played Leonidas did not train at Gym Jones prior to the filming and did not train with Twight at all and yet he's the guy in all the 300 articles in the man sex mags.
So who actually trained at Gym Jones?
Also who actually did the 300 workout at the end of the training?
I read somewhere that only a few of the guys who actually trained at Gym Jones did the 300 workout.
It's not difficult to devise your own Gym Jones/Crossfit style workout ... and if watching 300 doesn't get you hyped up, you'd better check your pulse.
I've been doing Crossfit for about 8 months now and a group of us decided to do the 300 workout last week. I have to say it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be- except the floor wipers! All in all a good workout but there are many CF style workouts that have kicked my ass much, much more.
No, that's not quite right. I had been tuned in to gymjones for a while prior to any significant hype about "300" and there were many pictures of Butler (Twight often will post training pictures) going through workouts, but none of it was being hyped for the movie, nor really said who Butler was and why he was training there.
The confusion probably comes from the fact that Butler, in addition to training at Twight's, also did more traditional bodybuilding training with another trainer. IIRC, it caused Butler to overtrain and he took some significant time off at some point.
Also, Butler is a heavy smoker, which is, insane to think he could do any of that and continue to smoke.
The media hype made the '300' WOD harder than it really was. I thought it was shameful that Craig Ballantyne couldn't break the 18min mark. But hey, it's not his job to excel in physical activity, just to train others. jmo
The movie was good. Despite it's Academy Award Losing faults, it was made clear in all the documentaries prior to the film's release on all the extras and made up details in the comic book which made it right onto film. Some of you will have to pardon me that I did not spot the pedo people in the film...unless one is talking about the boy-loving Athenian quote.
lol, suck it up and buy the 2-disc set, give away disc 1 to whomever wants it, and just watch disc 2...and eat crow.
The story is told by Dilios, the one eyed Spartan who Leonidas sent home. As director Zack Snyder said "a guy who knows how not to wreck a good story with truth."
Naturally, Dilios' oral history would exaggerate the heroism of the Spartans as well as the vileness of the Persians.
