Gyms in Nagano/Hakuba region

Hello, I will be moving to Hakuba (Happo One) in December for 3 months. Does anyone know of any boxing/mma gyms in Nagano? If not what about bjj gyms? Thanks in advance

There are a few. I live in Matsumoto, we have a club down here (we're an hour away though).

Near the bus terminal is a place called the Jungle Gym. Don't know much about them, but their phone number is 026-268-1007.

Haven't checked this in a while, thanks for your response Shatner. Do you by any chance know of any boxing gyms near Niseko?

Sorry, no. I do know that Nagano has some boxing gyms, but the biggest beef I've had with them is that they require up-front 1 year contracts, etc. Also, most of them are pretty corrupt into the Yak power of the area.

Thanks for your help man, Ive voted yo up, but your score still seems to be 136 so i dont understand it. The Yak power? Thats like the mafia isnt it? Do you think it would be alright for me to just rock up at one of these boxing gyms and ask to train? Im a novice with 1 amateur fight.

You can try, but I doubt most will let you train. Sorry about that. If you want, and you have the day off, come on down to my place. If anything, I'll be happy to swap some with you, and if we can, maybe get some of the other guys in too.

Haha Id be happy to do some training with you. Do you have any equipment? I can only really bring my gumshield and wraps. What's your experience in boxing? Please don't just batter me if you're way better than me

No worries.

At my gym, we have 16oz sparring gloves, and leg shields for if you want to do any kicking. We don't have a ring, but do have 50 square meters of mat space divided into two 5x5 areas.

I personally don't wear wraps, mainly because I am bigger than everyone else in the club (one of two heavyweights), and I've only once had to turn it up on someone who was being disrespectful to one of our female members. I use sparring as a means to check my form, my style, speed, footwork, etc.

I spent too many days recuperating after getting my fucking head kicked off against guys at Greg Jackson's back in 2003 to ever go gym warring again.

My expereince is 2-1 in Amateur MMA, about 12 years training, but I'm more of a grappler than a striker. Don't worry about level, I'll probably be learning stuff from you.

You trained at Jacksons? Nice!! What sort of gym is your place? Id only be interested in boxing really, my amateur fight was in boxing not mma.

Are you an American living in Japan? Im from the UK

Yep, Yank living in Japan.

Our place in the mornings is actually a Montessori Preschool, on the 3rd floor of a bakery building. The 2nd floor doubles as the school gym during foul weather, cold winter days and special events. In the afternoon we do various classes.

There is an English tab on the right side to change it over for you.

Hey guys, Im also moving to Hakuba in December till the end of the winter season! peteralan I have been wondering the same exact thing about finding a place to train, and Chocolate Shatner if it is alright with you, I would like to join in when I can and train at your facility. peterlan, I will be working at Pheonix Hotel which is a few minute walk away from Happo One. I must keep in shape during the winter and want to find ways to train other than the regular gym. I havent competed in 4 years now but used to do it full time, mma, muay thai, and bjj/grappling. Now I am travelling, searching for things I love doing while taking jobs of interest like in Hakuba to keep an income while enjoying new places. Im also enjoying crossfit and want to keep increasing my athleticism through various training. Hope to join you guys soon!

Guykaz, for me it is absolutely no problem. I will check with the head sensei, if is cool you both can train during class times. If he isn't, we'll get together on other nights and times.

Sorry for a late reply! Thank you Shatner! (my name has been updated)

Hi guys. I'm in Hakuba until the beginning of march and keen to get some Thai boxing (maybe a little boxing) training going at the Alps gym in Echoland (right in Hakuba, not an hour train ride away). I talked to the manager there and he said organizing a group to train Thai boxing together is no problem. I have 15 years experience as well as a couple of straight boxing fights. Would just have to go to Matsumoto to purchase a few decent pairs of pads and gloves. If you are interested please let me know.
