On Thursday, Oct 20,2005, The King, Spencer Fisher returned to his old training class. He wanted to spar and roll with the class and of course meet the new guys and remenisce with the old guys. I trained with Spencer before he fought professionally, so it was a real treat to see him and revel in all of his success. And yes, I sparred with him. It happened like this.
ok feet, keep moving. Hands stay high. Chin down, CHIN DOWN! Alright...whoa, where did he go? ok...got him in sights again. Hands throw one, two. Good, that rear hand landed. Do it Again! Rear hand landed better. Well it has worked 2 times, try it again. Nothing landed, and where did he go?? Why is my side hurting? Why is my stomache hurting? Why is my head hurting? OH Yeah, duck...tooo late.
I did not hold my own, Spencer held back just enough to protect himself and not really hurt this lowly peon. So lets roll. This time, that slick king, got me in a triangle choke, I was able to weasel out and smart enough to quit there.
Hey, I am out of shape and he is a pro, so cut me some slack.
Spencer's wife, Em, gave our class as much as they could handle, too, and considering that she gave up 50 lbs to everybody she faced, it was very impressive.
So to sum up, Spencer was very gracious to come back to class and share his experience with us. he was kind enough to spar and instruct us to add to our reptoire. He was nice enough to not kill us while sparring. and reminded us all how good our instructor really is. Thank you Spence, the time you spent was worth more than just the ass whipping that I got.
