hmmm. looks doable.
Thanks for the vid!
I never thought to put a butterfly hook on that leg from half.
i train with a brown belt that hits this style sweep from just about everywhere. if he's on his back and you give him pressure, he's gonna start in on this sweep.
i've been trying to make it mine, but i'm kinda retarded, so it's been a struggle.
Can't see it my phone dammit
Nice.
Good stuff. WAR RGDA!!
im a brown and i hit that sweep about 2-3 times yesterday against some blue belt from out of town.
...but you end up in the opponent half guard?
nice setup to the classic.
yes, you end up in their half guard. it's better than being on bottom.
you don't have to though. as you're taking them over, bring your knees in and cross your ankles. think about doing the knee slide pass IMMEDIATELY as you land.
I see, you can end up in quarter guard if you keep your foot hooked in the opponent's thigh and your knee out side. I'll try it out and play with it.
There's something incomplete in that vid. If you're in halfguard trapping your partner's right leg, you need to roll over your left shoulder. The momentum you create breaking your partner's posture makes it more efficient or easier if you roll over the your left.

i think the opponent posts his arm at :38, thus blocking the roll to that side, thats when you get the knee in and counter the other way, no?
We call that the Shaolin sweep. Never thought of setting it up with a kimura though. Thanks man.

In the body positioning (stretched out and broken posture) that he's in at :38 it doesn't matter if he posts. With leg entanglement you should be pulling your partners legs towards your right shoulder. In bird's eye view his head will be facing 5 o clock and his legs at 11 o clock.
honestly, where you should be thinking about this sweep is at :20 watch closely look at the guy on top's hips as the guy on bottom switches grips. While that switch and stretch is happening he should keep the guy on top's momentum going by pulling the legs up higher towards his shoulder while simultaneously rolling over the left shoulder.
I love this sweep! Another variaton where you could hit this sweep is when your partner gets on top of half guard and turns his back on you looking towards your legs.
It really isn't necessary to get that knee under, although it does help.
lol, that's me and my instructor in the vid

In this vid Roger does it twice. I know there's more of him doing the same sweep, but I can't find them.
At 4:57 is a little more advance variation of it. I say this variation is more advanced because he doesn't stretch out his partner, but he does get in that position I talked about in my earlier post. Since he has his partner's left leg trapped he wants the guy on top's head at 7 o clock and legs at 1 o clock, and roll over his right shoulder. Dissecting this sweep a little more, look at the way he sets up that position by moving his hips instead of pulling his partner's leg up towards his left shoulder at 4:58, facking beautiful.
At 5:02 he does the same thing to Marcelo Garcia.
Anarkis2 - I tried this on a purple belt and he would not let me extend his arm. Kept it tight and just smashed me.
if the sweep isn't working, use it to go to x-guard or deep half instead.
For later
Good sweep but looks to me like there's a couple unnecessary steps in the vid. I like the set up off the kimura though.
