I have a question. How can I improve my hand speed? ya see guys like vitor belfort who's hand are phenomenally fast. I am sure some of that is due to good genetics. But besides just hitting the heavy bag what can you do to get faster? Another question. I want to learn how to use focus mitts well so me and my friends can do drills with each other. Does any one know of any good videos that go over drill and such?
Dirt Mc Girt...the heavy bag is more to develop power. Practice air punches or shadow box for speed.
thax sam pai ill try that
as for the jacking off ive got that covered but ill be sure to try your 2 hand method 5pointer.
Some of us NEED to use 2 hands, LOL.
my name is from. old dirty basterd. of the wu tang clan. it was one of the nick names he had befor he smoked one to many rocks and his heart exploded
i think he was big baby jesus for a while also.
a good example of why not to smoke crack
Dirt try Bnag ludwig's kick boxing and Roy Harris core boxing.
They have excellent tips for balance and holding foucs mits.
As far as hand speed. Get an innertube. Or a cord you hook on a door. And shadow box with that. To get heavy hands try SLOWLY and cautiously shadow boxing with 3lbs weights.
Dirt McGirt...for hand speed, here you go:
1. Get a speed bag. This is used mostly for your rhythm, but will develop speed. Your shoulders will get awfully sore keeping your arms up in that position, but that is what you want.
2. Bench light weights, high reps. Or fast push ups.
3. Throw punches from the hip, not arm punches. Practice your pivot without throwing punches.
4. Double End Bag. VERY key for developing speed. It MAKES you fast, otherwise you won't hit shit.
5. Shadow box and tap the heavy bag (power shots are ok, as long as they have no power behind them :))as fast as you can. Practice makes perfect.
6. Use the coaches mits, throw combos as fast as you can.
7. Throw a heavy bag, from the hip, into your heavy bag, as hard as you can. Will develop explosive quickness with your punches.
Let me know how these go. These were some of the drills that I've learned at the boxing clubs I've worked out at. Spinks Gym, St. Louis. Ottumwa Boxing Club, Ottumwa Iowa. ISU Boxing Team, Ames, Iowa.
oh ya now i remember that chapell show. that was some funny shit.
thank for all the info everyone. ill try it all out.
WPB, touch your shoulder with your hand on the same arm. Put a penny on your elbow. Try to catch it before it hits the ground. This will create devastating speed and quikness. Also, you might want to try catching flies with chopsticks, as this is a great way to develop hand speed.
For defense, I'd recommend waxing cars, or sanding the deck.
;)
In WPB, veritas. :)
Qui, what is your current weight and height? Or what weight do (did) you wrestle at?
shadow box with 1-2.5 lbs. weights and try to focus on quickly retrieving your punches rather quickly throwing your punches.
Disc 3 of the Bas Rutten Big DVD's of combat, the MMA workout is decent, there is a portion to drill with focus mitts... Hope this helps.
the pennies were too easy, i'm using quarters
Mike Beckman,
Qui, what is your current weight and height? Or what weight do (did) you wrestle at?
I am 6', 200 pounds, I cut to 185. I don't wrestle, never have. Although I do wrestle with some ISU wrestlers, I've never done it as part of a team.
Beer pong.
