I think I can safely assume that you just watched the movie and never read the book? The book is MUCH better than the movie! Kubrick did a decent job and the first third of the movie was interesting, but then it really slowed down to a halt and lagged for the rest. Plus, several key plot points were changed in the transition.

The basic premise of the film seems to be that although man's capacity for violence can manifest in the most horrendous of behaviours - rape, torture, murder, to name a few - it nevertheless is an essential part of his survival mechanism. To completely eradicate a man's capacity for violence would leave him, and his family, at the tender mercies of the environment, his neighbours and even his government.

i got what they were trying to do, but i just didn't think it translated well to cinema. too dark for me, brah. if i'm gonna go dark, ill see 'there will be blood' or 'the road'.
Meh, I didn't think it was too bad. It was interesting, the acting was good, the special effects were so-so. 6.5/10, worth a rent if you liked the original.
I'll wait til it's on the movie network. I'm happy I clicked on this thread
