Has medication helped you in work/life?

Please share your experiences with me. I'm losing my shit and this has been ongoing for much of my adult life. Tired of quiting jobs just because I don't like them, etc. I'm done struggling through on my own.

Quitting

Have you see your DOC?

What's the problem?

I find that adderall helps on days where I feel sluggish or in a bad mood. Never fails.

what medication are you talking about?

cannibas helped me get through a lot of jobs in my youth.

i rely heavily on caffeine these days to be productive.

if you're talking about antidepressants then i don't know

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidsim a little over a year ago.  Gave me a pill to take once a day.  It got rid of my fatigue, which hounded me every day about 2 hours after waking up.  This also allowed me to stay focused more on my work.  Another impact it had was to clear up some nagging thoughts I've had since I was a kid.

Get yourself checked out, get a blood test, talk to the doctor about the issues you are having.  Don't self medicate, it's a waste of time.

Go to the doctor and be honest.

Dont take any pills. Change your diet first. Change your habits. Try some natural stuff.

Medicating is only hiding the problem. Could be you are just unhappy in your current situations? What do you truly want in life? Go for that.

What did men do before modern medicine? They either put up or they shut up, or they die. And things were much worse before. Things used to be way more fucked up.

Let's go bro. You got this!

This is terrible advice, regardless of intent.

Change his diet how?  Does he know what he's missing in his system?  Only a blood test will reveal that.  Sure, you can say stop eating fast food, but that doesn't come close to answering this man's questions or sending him in the right direction for him.

Agreed

Shoot up a shitload of test

Nope, tried 6 different psych meds, weed, shrooms, alcohol, mdma etc. no beuno. I can see meds helping some people though. I find they work better on anxiety than depression, I tend towards the latter.

You quit the barrel making job?

No. Come close though. I'm consumed by thoughts that I have no business thinking about at work and just lose focus even when not dwelling on negative shit. I was diagnosed ADHD more than 20 years ago and took Ritalin from 5th thru 8th grade with some good results in my behavior and grades according to my parents. Then I got into self medicating in high school and said fuck school and just been struggling thru the last 20 years. Work, relationships, I'm just a mess. My mood fluctuates and I don't bite my tongue or pretend I'm happy when I'm not. I get very frustrated with myself for not doing things well and either blow up or shutdown just like I used to as a little boy. Just like my soon to be 3 yr old currently does. Weed calms me down, but I need a lot more than just to calm down.

You'll end up with acne, balding, ball cancer etc. though right?

" Dont take any pills. Change your diet first. Change your habits. Try some natural stuff."

You should at least attempt to find out what his issue is before spouting off potential bullshit. No amount of naturopathy is going to fix schizophrenia, or most cancers, or zillions of other serious medical conditions.

I'll agree that seeking dietary & activity solutions should always be a first consideration, but you're going waaaaaaaaaaaaay too far with presumptions here.

"Please share your experiences with me."

You'll need to be more clear to help us narrow down what to talk about.

ADHD, anxiety, depression to some extent. I like to think most of my anxiety stems from my ADHD but I don't know and my doctor is just the bitch that recommends the meds after someone else evaluates me. Which I find peculiar. Gonna give the concerta a try and see how that goes.

Your GP is supposed to consult specialists before prescribing; that's how it works. Or did I misread you? Are you mad about that extra step, or resistant to the idea of mental health medications? Or...? What's your actual issue here?

I know she is. I just felt like she was skeptical when I went in and laid out my past the other month. Like I was just looking for Ritalin so I could get high when in actuality it had a calming effect on me when I took it those many moons ago. "Op wants Ritalin huh? Well I'm gonna give him concerta instead."

Lots of people BS for drugs. She's supposed to be skeptical. Let that go. Is that all this thread is about? Doesn't seem like that's what you were initially asking & we're stuck on a tangent.
