Has there ever been a UFC fighter that

didn't participate on the TUF show, that wasn't a big name when he signed to the UFC, who started on facebook prelims, got 1 or 2 impressive victories, moved their way up to fuel prelims, won some fights, then earned a spot on a main card, then won some more and got to a main ppv card, then ended up main eventing a UFC?

I was explaining to my friends last night that the Facebook prelims usually have less talented guys or very young unproven guys, and the chances that any of them move on to do something significant is very rare. Can anyone think of a fighter who started low and fought to move on to the bigger spot on the card?

Uncle Creepy?

Jon Dodson?

Those two are excluded as Creepy has a big following, and Dodson was on Tuf, and a winner on the show.

John Moraga. Always watch the flyweight fights that are on Feb cause a lot of the time they feature top 10 guys. I hate that they're on facebook Phone Post

Never heard of him.

If any UFC fighter has accomplished moving up the ranks, my guess is it's going to be one of the lighter weight guys. Those guys dont' have much hype around them, and the top guys at the lighter weights have great skill, but little interest which is why many of the higher skilled lighterweight guys are on the prelims.

Cain Velasquez.

Jon Jones kinda. He just hit all the levels very quickly. Phone Post

Cain Velasquez although I don't think they where showing fights on facebook at the time he was definitely way down on the under card.

Can't really say creepy being his first fight in the UFC was a big deal and part of the 4 man fly weight tournament. And he was regarded as the #1 Flyweight in the world before he ever fought in the ufc.

Barao? Michael McDonald?

Good job Jaybrone-Vote up for playing.

Cain's first UFC fight was on an undercard, his next fight was one of the first fights of the main card(Anderson/Irvin).

this thread is stupid. there are gonna be guys that go from the bottom to the top. it's like saying anything from the 2nd round up to whatever in the draft in the nfl isn't gonna go anywhere.

Exactly. Barao's WEC fights were buried deep on the prelims. Jon Jones started out in the prelims too. Tons of guys have worked their way up Phone Post

We have 2 names that aren't lightweight guys, Jon Jones and Cain. Name me 155 or higher who else can be added to this long list.

It seems like around 2007-2009 UFC divided itself into a young feeder league via preliminary fights and the main guys who fight on the main card.
