Has this sub ever been done in mma?

3 leg locks when opponent has your back - YouTube

1:30 mark

When your opponent has your back and crosses their feet, there’s a submission you can do. Has it ever been done in professional mma? I don’t recall.

I once saw a guy have another’s back in a seated position like you see here. We’ll call him A. The guy in the scissors is B. Anyway B scooted his butt as far into A as he could then grabbed his own right leg and placed it over A’s legs. B then crossed his other leg over in a figure 4 position sort of and locked it. When B leaned back into A, he broke A’s ankle. It was just a scramble, but I always thought it could be an effective submission. Hope I described it right ... it was at least 20 years ago.

Yes. Lots of times at amateur shows where guys have horrible jiu jitsu. Sambo guys will cross your feet with their hands from bottom turtle and and hit it.

Danaher says if you lean back and push him forward by his back  it negates the pressure.

Yes.

Kharitonov tapped Geronimo Dos Santos with it two or so years ago.

Embarrassing AF to get caught with that.

I believe it happened in Pancase back in the day. Funaki maybe? With those giant ass boots, low % leg attacks sometimes worked.

John Danaher shows a fantastic and simple counter to when people do this to you.

Its on his Back Attacks DVD on BJJ Fanatics.

All you have to do is let go of the choke or neck/arm control that you are using and use both hands to push your opponents head away. That releves the pressure on your feet and ankles.

I have tried it a few times, works 100%

Once you learn the defense that move does not work. Unlike the RNC where even if you know the defense your opponent can still tap you or transition to another submission.

I’d imagine if you know the counter to it, you’d probably be smart enough not to cross your feet in the first place.

Another part of that DVD shows how, when and why you would cross your feet.

Probably doesn’t happen much because you learn as a white belt to not do that.

Guys cross their feet lots of times in the UFC. I’ve often wondered why no one tries this counter.

Of course guys often don’t put the hooks in and get bucked off when on the back too. I think there are great grapplers, and then guys who know how to avoid getting in trouble.

That's partly why I asked.  There are times I see them cross their feet, usually they don't keep it that way but there are small openings if someone was to think about capitolizing on it.

Thank you to everyone for your feedback on this.  It was great to hear and understand the simple counter to that.  Like someone said above, if you know the counter, just better not to cross your feet in the first place.

Now, I'm off to find that Kharitonov fight!

Here is a link that should put you on the right track.   The detail of the submission on that particular video isn't great but you could probably find a better one if you looked on ru.tube

Dos Santos was straight up egregious in his foot placement there.  He was asking for it.  It looked like it started off as a lazy attempt at a body triangle, but he never bothered to adjust his feet into a normal back mount for some reason.

Wow, I posted my first video successfully in years!

That's so humiliating.

When I was training regularly, I have some good/positive memories of me doing cool stuff, but my most vivid memory is me tapping out in intro. In intro, which last for a few months, I had a super big advantage in that I had followed mma/jiu jitsu religiously for YEARS, so I knew of positions and submissions that weren't even being taught yet.

So we're practicing a rear naked choke drill where we try it for 2-3 minutes and then rotate partners and one partner starts out having your back, and you have to avoid the choke for the duration or if you get out of being in back control you win and re-start.  Or if your partner sinks a choke in, he wins and you re-start.

Well, I had my opponent's back, and this fucker, he actually made ME tapout, when I had HIS back.  He did this move where he straightened my right arm, turned my wrist upwards, and then used his own shoulder and applied pressure which caused me to tap.

I had never even heard about that submission before and was SO embarrassed an humbled.  I had arguably the most dominate position in jiu jitsu, yet it was me who tapped.   Never again though.  I never put myself in that position again.

I’m the guy filming that video.  Much respect to my bro Jaime Jara!

Nice!

Yeah man that was a good video.  I only went searching for one submission but that video detailed 3, and a reply on this thread gave great insight on a simple counter.  Thank you for your assistance!
