Help buy Laptop, Toshiba any good?

Looking to get a new Laptop in the €500-600 range.

It will be used for Office, some Photoshop, some basic sound editing, watching Netflix. Must have a HDMI out.

I was looking at this Toshiba Satellite Laptop | M50-A-11Q

Any opinions on Toshiba as a laptop brand.

or how abouth this: Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E531

I had toshibas for years. Good computers that are priced well I think.

But I bought a MacBook and it's on it's 4th year. Runs the exact same. I could never get a different laptop now. The way it last pays for itself. And the swiping commands are way to good to revert. The swiping commands make normal laptops seem so ancient and silly. Phone Post 3.0

I have old toshioba work laptops that beat around in tool boxes for years ( lots of them), everytime I pull them out, they work fine. I would buy one if I needed a new laptop

My laptop now is a toshiba and is like 5 years old and runs like a champ. Phone Post 3.0

Cool thanks - it is for my GF (no pix) - it was a toss up between the 2 I posted in the first post.

I've owned close to 20 toshiba laptops (for work). They've dropped off in quality drastically in the last two or three years. Buying Asus now. Very happy. Phone Post 3.0

Asus and Lenovo are both very dependable brands. I fix computers as a side thing, and over the last few years I've encountered a lot of Toshibas that overheat, have broken fans, etc. Phone Post 3.0

I recommend Asus and Lenovo.

Friend's Toshiba laptop overheated then after a while it didn't turn on anymore.

Ok. I will take that onboard.
So how does that Lenovo I posted a link to on my first post look? Phone Post 3.0

Im on one right now (Toshiba). Great machines. Affordable. You wont regret it....

ferox13 - Ok. I will take that onboard.

It looks OK but the E531 is an old model.

The E540 is already out with similar price.

Keep in mind i am in Ireland. Phone Post 3.0

Just got to a PC - I see you linked the Irish Lenovo site.

They have an E540 for €590.74 - which is with in our range..

thanks for that VTFU.

Comparing the E531 to the E540 in your link....

Does it not look like the older model has a better processor and hard drive - the E540 only has  better intergrated graphics? or am I missing something?

There seems to be a power issue with the E540 according to the Lenovo forums and there's no solution yet:

Maybe check out Asus laptops at the mall?

Even though the E531is older are the specs not just as good if not better? Phone Post 3.0

E531 has better processor.
E540 has better graphics.
E531 has more space (1 TB) but the E540 is faster at 7200rpm.

I recommend just getting an Asus laptop because there seems to be problems with the E531 and E540 according to the Lenovo forum.

Why not an S series Lenovo? I'd recommend a T series but that's outside your budget. Phone Post 3.0

Just get the Asus.

Dan O'Connell - Just get the Asus.
