Henderson talks Jones- "clinch my biggest strength

http://mmajunkie.com/news/29873/dan-henderson-not-thinking-about-legacy-ahead-of-ufc-151-title-shot-against-jon-jones.mma

"I'm just out there trying to be the best fighter that I can be, and if people think I'm the best ever, then even better."

"I probably would've rather fought a lot sooner," Henderson said. "But I'm giving myself a pretty long training camp to ease into it – and then I'll go hard."

"I know what I know. I know what I can do and what I'm capable of doing. I'm going to focus on what what I'm going to do to (Jon Jones), and not on what he's maybe going to do to me."

"I think where he likes to fight, other than way on the outside, is when he gets in the clinch". "And that's one of my biggest strengths. It's just a matter of who's got a better clinch game and who can implement their game plan."

Hes right. Jones relies on his reach but it works because when they get inside Jones is good enough to take down pretty much everyone from the clinch. So far anyways. Phone Post

As I've said no knows about the clinch here. I mean no one.

I like Hendo to get in his brain and make the youngster doubt himself. Hendo IS NOT going to do like Page and Shad. He's going inside come hell high water. JBJ does not like to get hit inordinately, he'll not like the feel of Hendo's power.

In addition no one knows how the events of the last few moths will affect JBJ.

This is the 'perfect storm' IMO for Hendo.

BTW if the author is talking about titles in rings, he ought to remember UFC 17 too.

I was kind of worried about JBJ's striking defense when the best he could do against Machida was extend his arms and lean backwards. Jorgenson did that against wineland and we saw how that turned out.

doop

I feel like hendo is going to be taken down easily and finished on the ground. The clinch game might not even come into it. Hendo is not the hardest person to take down, and his ground game from the bottom is pretty terrible.

Hendo has 58% TDD.

Hendo has a Serra's chance in winning this fight, and that's about it. This fight should be a boring, one-sided beat down....

lesser and smaller grapplers than jones have taken Hendo down... once jones gets him down it's over.

Still think jbj is winning it but they both have advantages over another in different areas. Phone Post

look at the size of henderson's neck vs jones' skinny neck.
Henderson's gonna decapitate him with that right hand.

Hendo is a tough guy. Truly.

But the last time I’ve seen him look great in the clinch and apply some damage is against Shoji almost 10 years ago.

Jones will own him in tight,

Dan needs to basically make this into a legit bar brawl/street fight and pray he connects

We don't know Jones' chin, for no one touches him hard, and he has also never been hurt when he has been hit, so your claim is flawed.

Hendo's power is only useful if he can hit this phenom, wrecking machine, which is doubtful.

Jones has the experience of walking through Rampage and Shogun, something that Hendo could only dream of. He also has the experience of owning Bonnar, Machida, Bader, Hamill, Vlady, Rashad and Vera. Hendo would be lucky to win a few of those fights.

Gonna be a tough one for Hendo

LOLthat guys a moron if he thinks this fight should be handicapped as hard as Serra.

Hendo is obvs a huge underdog, but he has two things Machida didn't strong clinch game and insane chin. The problem is he doesn't really have the outside game Machida had, so he can't beat him on the outside then resist a grapplefuck, but he CAN swarm him up close and try to Couture dirty box and stall him.

It's unlikely, but I'm hoping he can just stay in there and keep tight with Jones, if he can land a few hard shots it might be enough to gas JJ. Here's to hoping.

I'd also never compare this with his Fedor fight as Hendo had a much better chance against Fedor imo, but I still remember how many ppl just shat on Hendo in the lead up. So easy to discount an underdog, but Hendo most def has a route to victory in this fight

Ooops, quoted the guy I was mocking instead of the guy refuting him lol Well the point I made still stands, and you really are silly if you think him winning would be as unlikely as Serra

Serra wasn't even known for striking, just BJJ. No one realised he could clock someone with a hard shot like that and certainly n one had an inkling GSP was going through a midlife crisis with family death and a full camp revamp

It's the fact fans think JBJ is much better than GSP Matty! They think he can't be beat! I say they will think differently shortly.

As someone already mentioned, Hendo absolutely has to turn this into an ugly brawl. He also has to scramble like a mad man any time they hit the floor. There can be no waiting around on the ground with Jones or he will be stopped.

In a clean fight I don't see Jones losing.

However, Hendo's experience in tough fights gives him an edge if this turns into a war. If Hendo can make Jones uncomfortable he can certainly catch him.

I would be very happy to see Hendo at least threaten with takedowns too, even if he knows that he can't get them. Simply making Jones think about defending will make Hendo's striking more effective.

I guess my verdict is that Jones has more ways to win but Hendo still has a legit chance in this.
