With complete unanimity, all three judges at UFC 139 scored the first three rounds for Dan Henderson 10-9, and the next two rounds for Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua 9-10. leading to a unanious 47-48 decision for Henderson
1. A round is to be scored as a 10-10 Round when both contestants appear to be fighting evenly and neither contestant shows dominance in a round;
2. A round is to be scored as a 10-9 Round when a contestant wins by a close margin, landing the greater number of effective legal strikes, grappling and other maneuvers;
3. A round is to be scored as a 10-8 Round when a contestant overwhelmingly dominates by striking or grappling in a round.
4. A round is to be scored as a 10-7 Round when a contestant totally dominates by striking or grappling in a round.
Round 5, reading the definition of a 10-8, should be an example of what a 10-8 round looks like in real life. I don't understand how a reasonable person using that definition could score it any other possible way.
If last night main event had no 10-8 rounds, then I think they may aswell abolish everything but 10-9 rounds as I have never seen a clearer 10-8 than the 5th round.
As i said in another thread, HOW ON EARTH DO THE SAME JUDGES score stephan Bonnar's fight a 30-25 (TWO 10-8 rds) and not give ANY of the main event rds a 10-8?????? Its sad. and a real problem.

Thanks for the info. And I saw it that way too, which still had hendo in front...
The reason why judges are hesitant to give out a 10-8 round is simply because it is TOO big an advantage, especially in a 3-round fight. How can you, as a judge - give out a 10-8 round in a 3 round fight in the first round, and essentially declare a winner after 1 round?
It's similar in 5 rounders but it's possible to recover from a 10-8 at least.
