Johny Hendricks believes that his weight cut was a huge part of why is he longer the UFC welterweight champion, but now believes those issues are behind him and is focused on regaining the title:

"This time, I'm right around 12 percent. I really made a huge change in my diet. That's really what I'm focusing on now, is the weight cut. People don't get it but a weight cut is so huge in terms of what can happen to your body, how it reacts, and how it comes back. If you drop weight well, you can bounce back when the fight happens the next day. So I've been making sure my weight cut is good, so that my body is good, so that I can perform well.
"I'm not even thinking that this one camp is going to change much. I'm not looking just at this fight to see where I am. I'm looking at where I can be a year from now, in my next fight after this. If I can keep this process up, I believe it can help me."
Immediately after his loss to Lawler late last year, Hendricks confessed that the process of dropping weight was so brutal that he felt he'd need to consider retirement if he couldn't do it better in the future. After such a rough time, then a dispiriting loss, and a rush into another challenging training camp and weight cut, fans of the "Bigg Rigg" will be happy to hear that the former champion is still truly enjoying the process, and looking forward to another scrap.
"Yeah, I am," he promises.
"I love fighting whenever I get in there. After that last fight, I was sitting there going, 'Man, that sucks. OK, I lost. How do we get back?' The answer is to get a fight. You've got to get back on that horse. I want to get back. To be able to fight at home, again, I'm super excited for that as well. Hopefully I put on a great show for the fans. I want them to see everything that I've done. Also, I'm excited to fight a new opponent for the first time in about a year.
I don't think his diet had anything to do with Dolce. I'm not a Dolce fan but Hendricks did his own thing when not in training camp and got huge between fights and didn't follow Dolce's advice at all.

yup.
Hendricks has said elsewhere that Dolce did a good job, but that he (Hendricks) was gaining too much fat between fights...
I just think he's off the gear now, wouldnt have thought that if he didnt back out of the testing that gsp requested for their fight which was an immediate red flag. I just think he knows now he can get caught juicing with all the random testing and is finally going legit. "Yeah I'll do the random vada testing, only thing theyre going to find is a bunch of red meat!". fast forward to time to test "I decided not to do it, they are biased and will taint my results since they sponsor gsp!"...lol lamest excuse ever, right up there with pacquiao not wanting to do blood testing back in the day to set up a fight with floyd because he was 'scared of needles' (although he had a tattoo on his arm). Just takes a little reading between the lines for the real truth in my opinion.

He said that all in this interview, actually, as well

Best part?
Hendricks said he wanted WADA not VADA, and he said VADA sponsored GSP...
Turned out GSP was paying for himself AND Hendricks and was not sponsored. That VADA had busted fighters they had sponsored in the past. And that WADA isn't a testing org but a protocol, and that VADA's WADA protocol was more extreme and randomized than the AC's extra WADA protocol you could pay for.
Dana and Kizer were so quick to turn on GSP since he brought drug testing to light and opted for a third party (non-AC) tester. And it's pretty obvious why Hendricks turned on him hard and started the ridiculous accusations...

You're lying about Pacquiao though. Pac agreed to testing right after the fight which would've proven if he had taken drugs for the fight, as well as testing up until a few weeks before the fight, which would've caught any cycling. It's just that Floyd wanted testing non stop up until the day of the fight which was clearly mind games since the alternative testing schedule still would've brought Pac's alleged cheating to light
And it wasn't afraid of needles so stop being disingenuous, it's a belief A LOT of fighters have, that taking blood out will weaken you before a fight.
Good for Hendricks for trying to eat healthy, but I don't know why it took him this look to realize that he needed a change of diet.
In his last fight, you could tell just how depleted he was from the weight cut; he actually screamed "YES" when he made weight.
If I was making 150k bi annually based on my physical abilities, you better believe I would be dam near vegan... shit, I'm eating fairly healthy as it is and it wont even benefit me financially... I don't know how some pro athletes put a burden on themselves simply because they want to stuff their faces.

well, it's interesting as we see people in all walks of life that eat poorly, who could eliminate many health issues by eating better (myself included, lately).
i think a lot of athletes get used to bad habits, or presume because they didn't notice much of an effect when they were younger that it doesn't matter. at least Hendricks is still young enough to gain some competitive years from cleaning his diet up.... and also, can spend more training time on skill work, vs focusing on bringing his weight down.
