Henry Cejudo calls out Alexander Volkanovski

Former UFC flyweight and bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo unexpectedly "retired" less than a month ago, after successfully defending his bantamweight belt vs. Dominick Cruz on May 9. The belt was officially vacated on May 24. Cejudo has already said he wants to box 21-year-old WBC Silver lightweight champion Ryan Garcia. And in an interview with TMZ Sports on June 8, Cejudo called out UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski.

“There would only be one fight that would really bring me back, that would really wake me up in the morning," said Cejudo. "Other than Ryan Garcia, it would be Alexander Volkanovski, that overgrown midget. I would love to make him bend the knee because he’s already half way there.”

“I want a third title because I want to be different. There’s a lot of champ-champs – obviously, there’s only one ‘Triple C.’ There’s only one Olympic champ, flyweight champ and bantamweight champion of the world, but it’s just to cement it, go in the history books as the greatest mixed martial artist of all time.”

For the record, Cejudo is 5' 4" and the "midget" Volkanovski, already halfway to a bent knee, is 5' 6".

Did he lose his girlfriend already?

Respect him for trying to create big fights but…he arguably didn’t even win the FLW title in the first place, faced a first time FLW’er who may have had a bad weight cut for his first FLW defense and then faced a guy who hadn’t fought in years for his first BW defense.

At the same time, you cant not respect CCC’s accomplishments as the Triple C however…BW is imo the deepest division right now in the UFC and i guess if he relinquishes his title, that is one thing but to go up for a shot at FW, to bypass the severly deep BW contenders after opting for Cruz then wanting to leapfrog an very deep FW div for Volk is making further mockery of the state of affairs in the UFC.

The sport is better with you in it CCC and you gotta go for yours but this is getting silly.

i think its a winnable fight for him

Book it Dana.

Pay those men.

I’d be pumped to see that fight... but really I’d be excited to see any double champ go for a third belt

I think Cejudo has a better chance against Volkanovski than Conor does against Usman

DC will never make 185 (obviously) and I’m not sure if Nunes can make 125

I think everybody would be pumped to see GSP vs Khabib but it seems like that ship has sailed

Would be awesome to see CCC try to make history like that, might be a long time before it happens again

Respectfully, wasa-b, another way to phrase your history of his title runs is, “he consecutively beat Mighty Mouse, TJ, Marlon, and Cruz.”

I say he should do it. We’ve seen dominant single weight champs before. We’ve never seen a 3 division champ.

Interesting to note, his training partner Patricio has been talking about winning a 3rd belt ever since he won the LW title from Chandler. He wants a BW title shot.

I’m not sure when he plans to do that as he still has to defend his FW title three more times to win the Bellator GP.

Maybe he said he wants to do it after winning the GP.

That would be insane if two training partners each win three titles in three divisions in the sport’s two biggest promotions.

Pitbull has lost three times in the past decade going 16-3. Of those loses, two he won rematches and the other was up at LW where he was beating Benson Henderson until he injured his leg. Since then he just went 5-0 vs Staus, Weichel, Chandler, Sanchez, and Archuleta.

Pitbull is 30-4 and Henry is 16-2, reminds me of other training partners like Cain and DC when they were running through almost everyone.

I don't think UFC sees enough profit in letting Henry go after a 3rd title and disrupt a divsion. If they did not want to let GSP challenge for the LW title and walk away then they are for sure not gonna let the much less popular Cejudo do it.

Now with Pitbull, Bellator will let him go after a BW title as they have nothing to lose, they don't have some well developed BW division like the UFC has at FW with tons of active talent.

If Horiguchi returns... Horiguchi vs Pitbull would be great. I just hope Pitbull can make that cut and still be Pitbull out there.

Jesus christ this forum…he won a split decision so he didn’t REALLY win it. He fought a champ and one of the best BW’s ever who didn’t complain about his cut but you’ll go ahead and make the excuse for him. He defended his belt against the division GOAT who won the BW belt after a longer more difficult layoff before but let’s shit on that win as well while we’re at it.

Not a big Cejudo fan but if he was to go up to the 145 lb he’d have to be considered an automatic contender for the title.

He is one for the P4P best and has already won the belt in 2 divisions, no reason to make him ”earn” the shot by putting some wins together, he’s already been doing that at 125/135 as champ.

Cejudo and GSP are different situations. Cejudo is in a contract stalemate with the UFC where he “retired”. Cejudo will have more fights in the UFC.

GSP’s retirement was real, then he saw that chance at an easy win against Bisping and took it. GSP had agreed to defend the title if he won it, but ultimately ended up lying and fucking the UFC when he went back into retirement. That is why they are not giving him a shot at 155. I don’t think they would have a problem with GSP walking away had he not done them dirty already.

Also, none of the GSP talk matters because he can’t make 155 lbs, no way in fuck.

This. DJ would decisively beat the cringe in the rubber match

Cejudo vs volk

McGregor vs usman

The night of champions who can win there third title and go down as the greatest fighter in history?

"There would only be one fight that would really bring me back, that would really wake me up in the morning," said Cejudo. "Other than Ryan Garcia, it would be Alexander Volkanovski, that overgrown midget"

But...isn't that two fights?

Volkanovski would ruin him. Fight Aljo or go away.
