Everyone,
Central PA Mixed Martial Arts is going to be one of, if not the first in holding a Intramural Mixed Martial Arts program for high school students in State College, PA / Penn State in accordance with State College Area High School. I've taught Boxing and Muay Thai to the kids for the past four years and I'm pumped to have them learning Jiu-Jitsu / Submission Wrestling as well to round out the MMA game. I thought it would be appriciated to post this here:

that's really cool, hope it goes well
TTT for PA
Thanks for the support guys.
I'm in hopes our program will help set the standard for all high schools to get programs running all over the nation.

Fuckn wish I had this stuff in high school. That would be awsome if mma in school gets mainstream jst like regular high school sports
The biggest thing I had to get over was being able to prove the ability to keep the program safe. Too many schools think that just because it's "MMA" students will be beating on eachother and getting hurt. However, showing them a program that works well which is centered around form and technique, pad training / conditioning and "wrestling-like" Jiu-Jitsu really seems to help with the approval.
Good for you.
yeah, theres no way this kind of thing can get out of hand. high school kids are so kown for the ability to be level headed and non confrontational. high school mma. this shouldnt increase after school brawls at all.
this is great news. many high shcool programs have TMA programs already, MMA is progressive thinking for once.

BJJ should be a high school sport, hands down. Not sure I'm a fan of kids under the age of 18 involved in striking, unless its purely bag & mitt work with no live sparring, regardless of headgear.
But its an interesting concept, especially with so many kids interested in the sport. Prob a good thing to teach them 'correct' rather than let them hurt themselves trying to figure it out on their own. Good luck with the program.
Thanks again everyone for the continued support!
Very cool, best of luck to you
Thanks for the kind words hiptosser.
I currently teach MMA for 10 years at my high school in CA in the city of pacoima.
TTT! I see this is posted under the new section now of the site . . . AWESOME!

wish u well !!!
there is so much of a negative stigma regarding teens mma ... its rediculous . my son drake dudley had a devil of a time finding mma traing partners for the past 5 summers . mma for teens DONE RIGHT .... is very beneficial for kids / teens .
wish a huge success to ur program
sincerely , kirk
You're 100% right Kirk.
I think this is one big missing link right now in the progression of many future MMA fighters. Almost everyone says "Oh I did TKD, Karate, etc. as a kid and then got back into it after . . . " Or, "I wrestled." It was the same with myself. I grew up with Martial Arts but fell out of the scene for a few years in high school because all my friends did something else. Having IM programs such as this will likely keep the kids interested in MA throughout their child/teenhood.
It's interesting too, I strongly believe that the "competitive MMA" aspect for young teens should be the last thing that is focused on at a young age. Allowing them to get super technical with their Jiu-Jitsu, awesome form with Muay Thai and Boxing is such a great use of their time. Your son is in many ways the poster child of where a teen can take the sport once they've had been exposed to the fundamentals.
I work as a High School Coach and teach MMA. I work at V.I.S.A High School and also going to start working at Granada High School in CA, Los Angeles the San Fernando Valley. I teach Wrestling, Muay Thai and Brazilian jujitsu. I been teaching mix martial arts for 4 years. I been in MMA for ten years. My students love the class and have a big following. I think MMA is great for teen to release stress and to develop self control. MMA is a sport that need to be understood as a sport.
