Hollywood stars-end capitalism now!

Multimillionaire celebrities have signed a petition calling for an end to capitalism from the comfort of their luxury mansions.

The petition, called ‘Please, let’s not go back to normal’, says the COVID-19 pandemic is a “tragedy,” but that the “ongoing ecological catastrophe is a meta-crisis.”

“The pursuit of consumerism and an obsession with productivity have led us to deny the value of life itself: that of plants, that of animals, and that of a great number of human beings,” states the letter. “Pollution, climate change, and the destruction of our remaining natural zones has brought the world to a breaking point.”

The petition urges world leaders to not allow everyone to “go back to normal” after the coronavirus pandemic is over.

Signatories include Madonna, Robert de Niro, Cate Blanchett, Jane Fonda, Marion Cotillard and Monica Bellucci.

This is yet another example of the sheer disdain these celebrities have for ordinary, working aspirational people.

When they talk of ‘ending consumerism’ – they’re not talking about people not watching their movies or buying their music (God forbid), they’re talking about a reduction in everyone else’s living standards while they, the celebrity elite, continue to live like royalty.

While they dance and their giant kitchens and virtue signal about how “we’re all in this together” during the lockdown, people in the real world are losing their businesses and jobs.

They want to create a vertical economy of princes and paupers where no one outside of their bubble is allowed to elevate themselves.

Meanwhile, once the lockdown is over, they’ll continue to travel the world in private jets and buy expensive beachfront property while lecturing you about the necessity of eating bugs to save the planet.

let them eat cake…

You know, I've noticed a few younger generation kids talk bad about Capitalism like it is evil. It seems to be a much more prevalent thought with younger kids these days.

I think the leftist nutbags are making a dent in the education system and leaving this impression on these people. Also social media has been taken over by the most outspoken libs and influencing the younger generation.

they did that in korea. it seems a lot grew out of it, but it tooks 2 generations.

I get it, the sugar rush of seeing that headline made him want to post it here as fast as possible without doing any fact checking. The ensuing circle jerk is pretty funny though.

A little unfair of OP to make it sound like this is strictly just a bunch of hollywood celebrities that created a petition on change.org or something, with a stated goal of ending capitalism.

It wasn't a petition, it was an open letter, co-written by astrophysicist Aurélien Barrau and oscar winner Binoche that was published in the French daily Le Monde newspaper pleading for an end to unbridled consumerism and a "radical transformation" of economies to help save the planet. In addition to a handful of actors, it was also signed by nobel laureates for medicine, chemistry and physics as well as peace prize winner Muhammad Yunus.

Doesn’t change a thing.  All of those people who signed it wouldn’t be shit without capitalism.

That's nice. Again, nowhere in the letter does it state that they want an end to capitalism.

Bullshit!

We therefore solemnly call upon leaders – and all of us as citizens – to leave behind the unsustainable logic that still prevails and to undertake a profound overhaul of our goals, values, and economies.

The pursuit of consumerism and an obsession with productivity have led us to deny the value of life itself :

Why am I not surprised Bobby D is on the list.

It’s funny how he built a career playing conservative minded hardasses but he couldn’t be more of a basket case blubbering pussy in real life.

I guess that makes him a damn good actor!

What would you be considered if you wanted to say put a stricter limit on athletes and hollywood folks salaries and supply more money into research and other places that would actually help us when shit goes down?

You’re arguing over the wrong word. “Consumerism” in context != “capitalism”.

The thing that drives me crazy about fucking leftists is the hypocrisy. Fucking asshoes.

It must be tiring having so many invisible enemies in your head.

Wow. Such a thought provoking post.

the reality is no one on this board is jealous of these rich celebs or wishes they didn’t have the money they earned through capitalism.

the fact that They are 100 millionaires means that others can become millionaires and others 100 thousand airs. That’s how the System works.

someone through hard work, ingenuity, skill, or dumb luck has a product or service that is desirable to others and they capitalize on it. They create wealth and in turn spend it creating other wealth. To take it away from the Rich only hurts everyone else

but the issue is… once someone has made their money … too often they like to shift the system so others can’t follow suit.

It’s not the rich that is the problem.

its When the rich refuse to play by the rules that got them rich… that’s the issue.

"Lol… just like clockwork, they appear "

Curious which “they” I’m supposed to be now?

Here’s the deal.

capping money from one person is not going to open up more money for something else

there is no “pie” of money to be sliced up and divided. That’s not how it works

there is actually an unlimited amount of wealth. Lebron can make $100m a year and you can make a $100m a year and cancer research can also get $100m a year.

but here’s the kicker.

if Lebron doesn’t make his money. Then the economy actually goes down. (GDP falls )

we need lebron to make his $100m. He buys a house… (builder makes money… new kitchen, floor, bathroom. All companies That need business )

Lebron buys a car (dealer makes money)

now if all those industries are making money and all have extra to donate to cancer research. Cancer research makes money

but if there is no Lebron… all those companies are a little smaller… and donate less to cancer research

we need billionaires without them there are no millionaires. And millionaires beget more millionaires.
