Former UFC champion Holly Holm said she was open to a catchweight fight in the UFC with Invicta FC featherweight champion Cris Cyborg. Holm, the most decorated boxer in MMA history, has boxed as high as 152. However, Holm was offered a fight with Cyborg at UFC 198, and declined.

During a recent interview with sports personality Dave Ross on 120 Sports, Holm explain that it was simply a matter of timing.

"I was just kind of holding on to see if I could get the rematch for the belt," explained Holm, as transcribed by Marc Raimondi for MMA Fighting. "I'm not against fighting Cyborg. It just didn't seem like the right time."

"I'm not even stuck on the 135 compared to the 140 stuff. It's not really a big thing for me."

"In boxing, I fought in three weight classes. I'm not gonna say that I'm against going at 140. I actually think Cyborg might be able to do 135. Who knows? But that's definitely something that could be an option for the future. I'm actually really happy for her victory. I really like Cyborg. I think she's a great gal."

In the end, Holm didn't get her rematch; that went to Amanda Nunez at UFC 200 on July 9. Holm fights Valentina Shevchenko on July 23 at UFC on FOX 20. And Leslie Smith accepted the Cyborg fight, and lost in the first at UFC 198; the game Smith was upset only that the ref didn't allow the fight to go longer.

Holm v Cyborg is the best WMMA fight that can be made at the moment, IMO. I hope they manage to get it done and don't fuck it up like they manage to with a lot of other potentially great match ups. Phone Post 3.0

Holly's technical striking and footwork would give Cris an interesting challenge. I would like to see it.

agree.

I'd be very interested in this fight. Chute Boxe vs Professional Boxing....I'm sold on it.

Come on, what difference does 5 lbs make? It's just a easier cut for Holm. Phone Post 3.0

Doesn't seem like Ronda will ever accept the fight but I'm glad that another high level fighter is down,

Giver holly!!! Phone Post 3.0

OVER_HYPEDorUNDER_PAID - Ronda is the only elite female athlete scared of cyborg.

Not surprised, even cupcake is down to scrap. Phone Post 3.0

Good for Holly. I agree with her that Cris can make 135. Phone Post 3.0

If she doesn't care about the weight differences then she should challenge her for the belt at 145 imo. I love Holly, it would be awesome to see her challenge Chris, it might actually make for a really good match up.

OK this is the fight to make then. Phone Post 3.0

Why are you not requesting that Holly stick to fighting/talking about fighters at BW and not speaking about fighters not in her weight class?

I personally find it bizarre that Holly is open to fighting Cris at 140 but in the same breath thinks Cris can make 135..

I think Cyborg's striking is more suited for MMA. That'd be a great fight still.

My biggest concern is Cris' cardio at 140 lbs. We didn't get to see it. Phone Post 3.0

What belt is that? Phone Post 3.0

Cyborg won't accept. She will want it at 145lbs.

This would be fun to watch.

Modern MMA rules need to be updated; you can't have a normal human going against an actual cyborg. Cybernetic organisms and robotic enhancements should be tested for and banned by the athletic commission.

Until we can test cyborg and PROVE that she's not part robot, I've no interest in seeing this fight.

I don't find it bizarre. That last fight where Cris weighed in at 139 pretty much proved she could make 135. Even Ray said it was a smooth cut after the fight.

I think Holly's point is that she thinks she could make the weight but wouldn't let 5 pounds stop the fight if Cris refused to drop to 135.

My thinking is that Holly's elusive footwork is a special type of challenge for Cris. Holly won't stand and bang with her. Cris may find herself chasing more. It would be a great fight.
