homemade mat

I would like advice on making a mat for my garage if anyone has info or i would like to buy one. I'm thinking 12'x12' or so

Well, you can use carpet padding and a vinyl covering or you could go high tech and build one but it would take a lot of tennis balls plywood and foam and covering. Or 2x4s tires foam and a vinyl covering.

Here is a classic design....

take two equal sized canvas dropcloths...say 15 by 15 for example. then...get four or five layers of carpet padding....about 14.75 by 14.75. you want to lay out a drp cloth. then cover it in elmer's glue. then put out each layer of carpet padding....with emore's glue in between. let them cure for 48 hours. then put the top layer on. you can either sew the eedges or use metal gromets...or both. it's cheap, it's tough, and it'll last forever.

Tennis balls?

Concrete floor plus tennis balls plus plywood plus matting equals a low-tech sprung floor. Very nice to be thrown onto.

You can also do the same with car tires and plywood.

My old one consisted of those hard sheets of foam (the blue stuff used for house insulation), carpet padding, a piece of carpet turned upside down and a fairly thick tarp stretched over the surface like a drum skin and attached with duct tape (a lot of duct tape)  It worked for a garage and I got most of the materials for free.  Still nothing beats the real thing.
