3 rounds is too short for the ten point must system, IMPO.
Sagiv Lapkin - How about PRIDE rules...and PRIDE judging criteria.....
I wish it was so, but that's not going to happen. So i just figured one big round may be doable.
How about no time limits, fight til ko or sub. Problem solved!
PPV won't allow that either. We need a legitimate solution. 3 fives is kinda corny anyways. Just have one big round, and let it rip.
What EXACTLY was pride judging criteria? I think damage at end of fight was factored in. IMO, that is faulty as some fighters much easier to bust up facially than others.
PRIDE judged the entire fight rather than the rounds
Let's just make it 4x15 minute rounds like football. An you guys birch about fighters gassing.
So, what about cuts? Will you then be given injury timeouts for "Stitch" to attend to you? Have any of you tried to fight for 10 minutes, let alone 15? Remember how bad fighters used to gas back in the early UFC's with the 12 minute rounds and 3 minute overtime?
I understand your point o keep a fight going but it would just not be possible with the commissions or the fighters.
I remember back when they use to fight 3 times in a night. I remember Sak and Royce fighting for 45 mins. You would adjust accordingly. Blow your wad in the first couple minutes, then you're probably gonna get your ass kicked for the next 8-10. They fight fifteen now. I am not asking for longer time limits, just no rounds. They don't work. Plus the judges suck.
5 judges imo
its less likely for 3 out of 5 to get it "wrong" then it is for 2 out of 3
also they shouldnt be right next to each other. It gives to much opportunity to be influenced by anothers point of view and opinion

In all honesty given the much better training of today's fighters, they gas alot worse now, than they did with the long rounds.
And how about MMA judges? How bout people like Hume, leBell, Militich, etc? Hell, even Rickson or Rorion.
One fifteen minute round is actually fairly intriguing.
I would be 100% for the 10 min first round. Guys would be more focused on finishing instead of just winning rounds.
stlnl2 -Because they are equally matched up now (except in strikeforce) which makes for a harder fight to dominate.Top Team - Let's just make it 4x15 minute rounds like football. I was referring to the back and forth fights. Not the one sided ass beatings.
Sagiv Lapkin - How about PRIDE rules...and PRIDE judging criteria.....
Despite the obvious complications in judging, I actually thought the old pride format of 10 min first rounds was very entertaining.
The judges only remember what happens in the last 1-2 minutes of a round, so 15 - 1 minute rounds or 7 - 2 minute rounds would make more sense.

I started to chuckle...... until I realized you have a pretty good point!
But that's probably more of a judging issue. 1 x 15 min round would let the fight be judged as a whole and that could solve some problems, like the Rampage-Machida hoopla.
I wonder what the entertainment value of a 15 min round would be nowadays given the way fighters have developed over the years
