How come Dr’s don’t recommend Creatine Supplementation to the Elderly?

Why don’t Drs suggest older adults to take creatine supplements? Both my parents are over 75 and have had health problems. Would supplementing with creatine improve their overall health?

Creatine is an inexpensive and safe dietary supplement that has both peripheral and central effects. The benefits afforded to older adults through creatine ingestion are substantial, can improve quality of life, and ultimately may reduce the disease burden associated with sarcopenia and cognitive dysfunction.

Just a guess, but I can’t imagine extra water weight being good for an elderly person.

Because creatine doesn’t have a pharma rep constantly visiting the doctor offering payola?

Not so. But even if all those things were of zero help, it helps with methylation. Methylation is an important but limited process. The body uses a good chunk of that process to produce its necessary creatine. If you supplement with creatine, all that methylation capacity is opened up for everything else.
