When I do dips I always go down as low as I can, but I've heard some people say you should not go any deeper than a 90° angle between upper and forearm.
Can you really get injured from dipping too deep?
Careful of neck injury if going deep, especially when adding weight. I blew a disc a few years back in the neck and bad form in dips probably contributed. Even with correct form it can be risky. Now I go deep just b/w only and 3/4 down with added weight and no further injury.
Go down until your shoulders touch your hands. Any less and you are not a true man.
YumYumPandaburger,
For all strength training movements, strive to move through the greatest ROM which you can control and which remains pain free. Control and acute pain should establish the ROM limits for all that you do. As you gain strength, you will exhibit greater control over greater ROM's and hopefully will not be hindered by any structural issues. injuries etc.
To sum up: Move in the Range Of Motion that feels best for you and your body. Don't worry about what others do.
I hope that is clear.
TAKU T.N.T.
thanks for the replies! I guess I'll continue to dip as deep as I can since it doesn ot hurt me.
