I see threads about how the UG is dying so I thought I’d take it back and ask how everyone got here in the first place.
I found out after I watched an event and was mesmerized by it. I had been competing in boxing since 12 but, mma was a whole new thing. I actually sent a Facebook message to Aljamain Sterling since he lived the closest to where I was (Rochester, NY) training at team bombsquad and asked how he got started. He told me to find a gym and check this place out for amateur events.
I had just found and was lurking on sherdog in 02 or 03 and somebody there said this was a REAL site because pro fighters posted here more.
I started lurking here around that time but had difficulty figuring the site out due to frames and shit (I had been a member on prob 40 vbulletin and phhpb forums before). I finally figured it out and started using this site more than sherdog, then tried to make an account a couple of years later, but this forum having the shitty issues it does, ate my account.
I was training at Sityodtong and I remember complaining to fighter Nuri Shakir about how I was having problems with my account at Sherdog, and he told me that forget that place and come here.
Saw a help wanted ad posted in a trade journal, where Zuffa was offering $250K/year for paid posters. I went to Vegas, interviewed with Dana White, Joe Silva and Burt Watson. Negotiated for 5 weeks vacation/year, accepted job.
My bjj coach at the time (late 2001) told me about a mma event nearby he heard about on the underground. I asked him what the underground was and then I lurked for a few months prior to joining.
I used to go to sherdog in computer class around 2005. People would always talk about the ug but i hated the way the site looked to me. When i got a smartphone i liked the mobile site more and here i am with the app
Watched mma since UFC 1 but never felt the need to search out a forum until I hurt my back really bad and got bored. I found it just by typing "mma forum" in google. Was never much of an internet guy but when you're always laying around it's a good thing to have I guess.
from Rogan mentioning it during commentary around 2007 and a few times after that also. He hasn’t brought it up since that time period.
Even then I didn’t come here, as it never even occured to me to look up mma online on my banking and porn machine.
I got my news from Bas on Inside mma, and then through a different site that was only mma news. Then the Strikeforce site to find out when they had an upcoming event. It was never hard back then to find out about UFC events.
Finally I came here in late 2009 and lurked the forum for a year or so before making an account. I remember my first thread was a “what if” type thread about Brock vs Carwin (which hadn’t happened yet) and Carwin himself chimed in about loving the idea - unfortunately I was unprepared for that and starstruck a bit and had no idea how to respond … I don’t think I did lol.
Anyway, the forum was a lot more fun then (I miss Calo’s threads). Used to be able to log in everyday and find new great threads - not so much these days. But I still like it.
I was abducted by sexy aliens in 2009. They said my cock was just not quite up to their standards. I decided to start hanging out here because the average penis size is so small that mine stands out like the Statue of Liberty. I’m still waiting on their return
