How do gyms treat failing fighters?

Take Danny Castillo as an example.

Lost three straight. 1-4 in his last five fights. How does Team Alpha Male treat him going forward?

Do they lie to him and say he’s still an elite badass who can hang with the top ten in his division? Or did they give him a Joe Rogan-esque talk about the reality of his skills?

Do they allocate the same time and resources to him in preparation for his next fight? Or would they give him notice that TAM no longer wants to train him?

I realize each gym is different but I’ve always wondered about how they treat fighters who could no longer cut it.

But I'm sure there comes a point when a fighter's decline is undeniable and irreversible. Then what?

Betwithme - Tam is a business. I'm sure he still pays to go to that gym. Phone Post 3.0

So they'll keep taking his money even if he has no chance of really going anywhere.

Just because he may end up cut from the UFC doesn't mean he's done fighting. Phone Post 3.0

Often times coaches and teammates take losses harder than the fighters, they are surely supportive. Danny actually looked great despite coming up short against Jim, he still has fight left in him if he wants it and his team will likely support and train him either way. Phone Post 3.0

There's a series on Hulu, Fight Factory, that followed AKA at this time. You should check it out sometime.

Look at a guy like leonard garcia. Had a rough run in the ufc. But the guy is a staple of the jackson team. Phone Post 3.0

Jayduane,

If I am not mistaken, Leonard left Jacksons after he was released from the UFC and joined Team Alpha male. He went on to have a winning streak, won a title belt, lost his belt then retired. Leonard and Cowboy are still the best of friends though.

Jessamyn Duke, Marina Shafir and Shayna Bazsler "left" GFC after they went on a losing streak and I am inclined to believe that they were "encouraged" to try other gyms

Heard he retired but dont think it doesnt keep them out of the gym training or coaching amateurs. Phone Post 3.0
