Im really interested in becoming an MMA fighter. I have no training or knowledge on how to go about becoming a fighter. I workout and work on my cardio alot so im not in bad shape. But how do I go about it? Can you become a fighter without having training?(even if it's not the smartest idea!)
I assume you start with fighting as an amateur.. Do amateur fights pay? Do you have to get licsensed?
I live in Florida, close to American Top Team whom I may call if I dont get advice here. Im VERY interested so anybodys input is appreciated.
the best way to gain experience is to just start fighting. don't worry about your lack of skills- most fighters don't know what they are doing until they get to the Pride level, anyway.
Start training in anything, if this is a serious question, you need to start training. Wrestle, judo, bjj, kickboxing, boxing, start somewhere. But, training somewhere like ATT would be your best bet.
Then, you can have someone who knows the game make the decision of when you should fight. Good luck.
I was thinking of starting fighting here out of Portland myself. I live right by team quest out here in Portland. That and I've trained wrestling, budo, and TKD plus some stuff from the army which probably would be useless in a fight.
Any Portland folks know a good place to start for a first time fighter?
Money is definately not the motivation.. I was just curious about that. I had a feeling that checking out ATT would be my best bet. This is something im serious about.
Thanks again.
Man do something smart and go to the AAT location cause you don't want to get hurt.
At the end of the day you are doin what you love the most( if that is what you love) and you should be able to enjoy it while doin it.

I, too, have no previous training but am looking forward to becoming a fighter sometime in the near future. Still checking out the schools around me, but I've pretty much made up my mind that I"ll be training BJJ w/ Gracie Barra and hitting up Chute Boxe @ BHJJC for MT. I'd like to be able to do both at Chute Boxe instead, but they're about an hour away and going there 4-5 days a week for training isn't an option.
