How do pros cut so much weight

I've heard a few things, obviously they dry out for 24hrs before or whatever but, I've heard of pros sucking lemons, vitamin C tablets.

Can anyone shed some more light on it. Phone Post 3.0

There are many ways, the most common are to simply to sit in a sauna or workout with a sauna suit on after applying copious amounts of Sweet Sweat (or Albolene) or to soak in a hot bath mixed with epson salt and green rubbing alcohol while wearing a couple of heavy towels over your head. Ok, thanks mate. Phone Post 3.0

Did you see how drained George Groves looked at the weigh in at his last fight? Phone Post 3.0

I'm no master at weight cutting, but based on my experience I did it and recommend it the following ways:

1.) Not getting over 10 lbs of fight weight

2.) Using hot Epson salt baths the night before

3.) Reducing sodium a few days before the fight.

If that doesn't get the job done, you are looking at cutting water weight:

3.) Sucking a jolly rancher & constantly spitting into cup work for a lot of guys.

4.) During training you should be drinking over 2 gallons of water a day if you are above 200 lbs. That should be cut back about 4 days out significantly if you are worried about water weight & your sodium intake should be really low.

4.) Saunas & trashbags are a last resort. If you have to do that more than once, you are doing something wrong.

4.) Re-hydrating should be immediate and should be done with pedialyte.

Thank you for your input.
I was curios because on Thursday Evening I weighed 80kilos and needed to be 75kilos Saturday morning. Ran 9 miles hardly ate or drunk.
Got to 77.5 Friday night, trained got to 76.10
Hardly drunk anything by sat morning, ran another 3 miles
Had to lose 700g hour before the weigh in.

Just gotta keep it off now until Saturday coming. My own fault, I had more than a blowout after my last fight. Phone Post 3.0

This is my area of expertise I suppose. I've been going through this process for a long long time, I'm a sport nutritionist and ive specialised in Nutrition for weight restricted sports and weight management for performance , that's how I first got my start in the boxing industry in a vocational sense. I've tried every different method and combination you can imagine.

waterloading is a good method of getting a few extra lbs off.

Salt baths and sodium depleting is pretty pointless, think about it, we are not slugs, we don't shrivel up when we touch salt, nor would we swell up if we had low sodium levels and sat in a salted bath. The dermis in our skin doesn't work like that. Having higher levels of sodium outside the body, than inside, isn't going to draw out more water from the body, come on, that's ridiculous. All that matters is the heat.

The more excess water you are retaining through a loading phase, the more you will be able to cut, but what's the point? Just retain less, cut less.

You will always arrive at the same point. Same with albolene.

I try and time it so the last couple of days training are on restricted calories, this is the only time during camp that I restrict calories. By that time I'll have started waterloading and diet will be very simple, little to no sodium. After training has finished the boxer usually has 3 days rest, so keep calories very low as there are no sessions to fuel for or refuel after. Might look like this ...

Mon - 6 litres
Tues - 6
Wed - 6
Thur - 6
Fri - 1.5
Sat - 0, weigh in, replace fluids.

The purpose of the loading phase is to shut off the anti-diuretic hormone that regulates the amount of water in the body, takes a minimum of 3 days for this to happen, then roughly 24 hours to reverse.

You can bath off some extra water on the morning of the weighin but God help you if you try and do it this for same day weighin, never do more that 1-2 lbs like this for same day.

Any water you cut, you will have to replace, so doing it at any time other than right before the weighins is pretty stupid and pointless, not to mention dangerous. Phone Post 3.0

What championship are you in mate?

Yeah absolutely, still heard nothing as of this morning about fights though, I heard they haven't even got a venue booked in Swansea. You got any info?

We've got senior novices weighing 85, 82 and 61 .

I'm not allowed in the corner for amatuers, I've got to stay up here and open the gym. Gutted. Where about you based? Phone Post 3.0

I've got the email here mate
Are they in the 0-5 or the 6-10 ?
What gym are you ?

I'm premier abc mate. Phone Post 3.0

Yeah they've been matched now, a couple have got byes. Think we've got one in the 6-10. Rest have only had a couple.

Had a girl enter, making her debut but she couldn't matched, gutting for her. All your boxers get matched?

They will be Brymbo Boxing Club. I've not got amatuer licence, never had one. But I still train them and do their nutrition.

Took the two +80k lads yesterday, both over 30 years old, did 20 rounds on the pads, hand are still shaking lol. Last day of sparring for them tonight.

Have you finished all your training? How's weight now? Phone Post 3.0

I'm going training at 6, have another session Friday.
I had a bye also, so I won't be fighting Saturday but, could have a bout Sunday.

I'm not sure, I was a little over what I expected on Monday. I was 78.
I'll weigh once I'm down the gym. I've hardly ate since Monday.
Just tins of mackerel, kale and spinach Phone Post 3.0

I'm not fighting until next weekend due to having that bye.
I'm grateful really, gives me more time to shift some pounds. Phone Post 3.0

Jesus Browny reading this is bringing back horrible memories! I used to box at 75kg as an amateur (and i'm 6'3), same day weigh ins are hard work, i didn't do anything sensible to make weight, mainly daft stuff like chewing food then spitting it out, urgh.

Where do you train?

Frames4life that's great info regarding waterloading etc.

What weight are your pros? I've got a lightheavy lad who i'm looking to turn over in a few months, i'm always on the look out for sparring!

We've got a lightheavy, just been licenced and waiting for debut, gonna be a road fighter for sure, not talented but strongest guy you will ever spar at any weight and can take anything that's getting dished out lol.

Where you based? We are just outside Wrexham in North Wales. All our lads are managed by Scott Lawton. Phone Post 3.0

We're in Leeds mate, but always happy to travel for a few rounds!

My lad is similar, a bit raw but strong as an ox, i've been trying to turn him into a Yorkshire version of Mike McCallum/Toney/John Conteh for the last few months - with varying degrees of success!

Who would i contact to arrange a bit of sparring?

Drop me a line here mate, we'll sort something out.
