How do you guys like to spar?

Rules/limitations, equipment, intensity and what not.
I was having a conversation at school(college) today with a fellow martial artist and he was saying that he spars with mma gloves, elbow pads, knee pads, pretty much the works, and they spar with full on mma rules. Sounds pretty rough and maybe a little dangerous in the long term to me, but I'm not exactly an expert. I spar with 16 ounce gloves, headgear and shin-guards and pretty much do kickboxing with takedowns and later do jiu jitsu with mma gloves and strikes. What about you guys?

I tried that with Ronda and she broke my arm. Then I tried that with Johny Hendricks and got a beard rash all over my baby soft skin. Then I tried that with Kongo and had to get my testicles removed.

Hard sparring days- 16 oz gloves, headgear, shin guards, knee pads.
Intensity pretty much the same as a fight.
When it hits the ground we keep going. I like this because the guy on the bottom is trying to sweep stand or submit while the guy on top working positions & Ground n Pound. (Guy on bottom has headgear and top guy has 16 0z gloves on so ground and pound can be about 100% intensity and there is little risk of injury)

We also do light sparring some days, no headgear at about 60 % Intensity. Usually just standup these days.

The pro practice at my gym pretty much is no elbows or knees to the head. When sparring with mma gloves, controlled strikes to the face. The intensity is pretty much the same as a fight with some control. I'm just an onlooker.

Do you guys knee with close to 100 percent intensity?

Boxing sparing with 16's and no headgear. Kickboxing with 16's and shin guards, head gear optional. No knees or elbows. Sometimes MMA gloves, with shin guards and punching kicking and takedowns. Only like 60-70% with the punches. Phone Post

It is funny some times. I had this girl go for a kimura block and put her hand on my dong. I was like that's right. Haha cuz I had like a semi going already. Phone Post

16ozers.....dont be caught with less. If a guy isnt wearing shin pads then we do not usually play kicks and just box. The general rule of thumb is you get what you give in terms of power and intensity which means it is usually full sparring. Headgear is optional and most of us dont wear it.

My personal favorite rule....stay away from Mighty Mo if he looks pissed or his last partner was trying to be an asshole.
