How does nyc keep absorbing new housing and office

Developments? How can there be this many people with that amount of money?

Some of these projects are badass, like Hudson yards, but how can there be folks with 10,30, or 50 mil to drop on a Condo?

As someone who dogs construction, I'd lose my mind down there keeping up Phone Post 3.0

This whole thing blows my mind

Sweet Z. I like to keep up on curbed Boston and ny Phone Post 3.0

I'm surprised how high they're letting some of the buildings go near Central Park. Obviously nuclear is the hub of skyscrapers but they kinda seem out of place.

The tallest building here is 16 stories and people lost their shit online last month when a developer proposed a 23 story buildings . I can't tell you how many people posted "we're gonna become New York in a few years". Fucking idiots Phone Post 3.0

I rent hoisting and rigging equipment in NYC and we are rocking and rolling. I hope they keep building.

They just announced a plan to expand Penn Station by 50%.

They are building like crazy and it's a lot of private developers doing it.

Most of the new buildings going up are mixed use buildings. Phone Post 3.0

Also keep in mind that the island is full. So in many cases when a new building goes up, an old one had to come down.

Hudson yards is slightly different... but it is usually the case. It is pretty cool watching them take things down just to build bigger ones. My office is right next to 432 park. It has been interesting to watch them take down the hotel, clear the lot, and build the building.

Pretty cool stuff.

I've been running a lot of equipment to 524 Park for the stone riggers.

But there is definitely a lot of demo on the old buildings and the new ones going up are bigger and better each time.

It's a good time to be in construction Phone Post 3.0

I know nothing about construction or architecture and it is exciting.

I can't wait to see the other new one going up on park, between 55 and 56. They look to be just about done with the demolition. It is supposed to be the "greenest" biulding in the city. The technology sounds pretty damn cool.

I heard about that place. It's supposed to have gray water recycling systems and all kinds of new solar etc.

Riverside Plaza will be nice to on 59th-61st and West End next to the Trump buildings.

Go look at what happening in LIC and Flatbush, it's becoming mini Manhattan. Phone Post 3.0

Hudson yards is going to be gorgeous.

A lot of the high end apartments go to people who don't even live here.

There was a cool expose in New York Magazine that talked about how high end NYC real estate is being bought up by Chinese businessmen, Russian oligarchs, middle eastern businessmen, and are also being used as vehicles for money laundering.

If I can find the article I will post it for you.

Here it is.... tons are owned by shell companies, lol....

I have a client that owns a two story apartment in Columbus Circle, her entire floor is unoccupied and she has never met a neighbor, lol.

To a foreigner with money, NYC RE is money in the bank.

It's crazy you guys talking about Hudson yards and I'm trying to get back on that job. Must be a sign Phone Post 3.0

My buddy does roofing and restoration work in the city for a bunch of higher profile clients. He says business is good recently and a lot of owners are finally feeling good enough to redo brickwork and roofs etc. Phone Post 3.0

I've read that the giant Bourdain market is a pain to get to. That right? Phone Post 3.0

Penn Station is a fucking abomination. It was a gorgeous building and they tore it down in the 60s to make the hideous cramped shitbox we have today.

i know a girl (Chinese) whose father just bought her a $40 million apt.....he was in a bidding war with some saudi prince over it

so yeah, chinese and middle easterners

Manhattan is the most engineered piece of land in the world. It's amazing how much "stuff" gets on and off the island everyday.

Food/clothing for millions, millions commuting on and off, all the toilet flushes, it just bottles my mind.
