90% of Masvidal's career has been close fights where he was rarely aggressive and rarely super effective. He's the pinnacle of a reliable journeyman. Like a lot of journeyman, he's had a couple spots in his career where he put a few nice wins together to become a fringe contender. And as a journeyman, he's rarely good enough to beat top guys, and never good enough to beat THE top guy. 

Jorge's knee was huge because that was the only way he ever wins that fight. In every other timeline, Ben wins an easy decision.

I maintain that Ben beats him 9/10 times at any point in Ben’s career. Jorge fought Ben with a perfect gameplan and perfect execution.

Masvidals wrestling isn't fantastic. Maia took him down a bunch, and although a good MMA/BJJ Wrestler, he isn't "great" 

I think Askren can out wrestle Usman the issue is Usmans striking is lightyears a head of Ben

Most wrestlers who have trained daily and competed since grade school through the Olympics aren’t doing great physically compared to other MMAers even of the same age. Askren’s hip is exhibit A.
