The only Bodyguard Magazine I've bought yet had Tony Bonello on the cover and a pretty big article on him. From what I gathered he's got quite a training background and seemed like a pretty cool dude.
My question is, does he have legit big time skills or is he doomed to B level shows?
BTW Bodyguard is a great mag and I'll probably get a subscription if it makes it for another year or so. Been burned too many times to rush that.
Just checked his record, 11-0 with a few fighters I've heard of but no studs. He hasn't fought in like 9 months now, thought maybe some Aussies would have some inside info on him or had trained with him. Lot of subs on his record which is cool.
while most of his fights may be a little dubious, he does have legitimate training behind him.
as far as his bb in bjj goes, well, its a little sketchy as well. as far as his world class hands go, well, from the people that have trained with him, he can hang around with top level boxers
he is fighting again on nov 11, so this will be another opportunity for him to either show he is legit, or add more fuel to the bullshit fire that surrounds him
those close to him say that people are hesitant to fight him as a loss to him may tarnish their career
One thing about the article, is he came across as a dude that was really really rich. Do you think that possibly has anything to do with his BB and the questions behind some of his fights?
He did seem very interested in promoting the sport in Australia which is great, but if he's as good as he says he is I don't see why he's not stepping up to some tougher comp.
