3 weight world champ. Beat Sugar Ray Leonard, Ray Mancini, Edwin Rosario, Jose Luis Ramirez, Howard Davis Jr, Greg Hauge, Vinnie Pazienza, and Roberto Duran. Only had 4 losses in his prime to Haugen, Julio Cesar Chavez, Felix Trinidad and Oscar De La Hoya.
I seem to remember that the Edwin Rosario fight was a bad decision that should have gone to Rosario. Also, Sugar Ray Leonard and Roberto Duran were way past their primes when Camacho beat them.
He was past his prime when he lost to Trinidad and De La Hoya. He got battered by Chavez but showed a lot of heart and toughness in going the distance. His wins over Paz and Mancini are legit. I always enjoyed watching him fight. People either loved him or hated him no middle ground.
Nearly all the big names on his resume either occured when he was in his prime and the other guy was half shot, or when he was half shot and the other guy was in his prime. He was really talented, and more than just a flashy showman, but it's hard to know how good he was, since he never really fought to his potential becuase he was such a wildman outside of the ring
You don't really become a 3 division champion in boxing ,unless you are really good at boxing.Â

He was the best
He didn't beat Sugar Ray Leonard. He beat a shell formerly known as Sugar Ray Leonard. He was almost 41 and had been retired years.
The guy is in the boxing hall of fame.
Doubt anyone would say hes the GOAT, but was pretty damn good.
Â
I think we was very good in his prime. Most people that hated him hated him because he was too flashy. But like so many fighters who knows how good he could of been if he took better care of himself during his prime.Â
I thoroughly enjoyed the Greg Haugen fight. Haugen was tough!!
Very Good

CRE,
You’re my boy and all but you sometimes are goofy with your comments.
"and Roberto Duran. Only had 4 losses in his prime to "
You talk about Camocho’s losses in his “prime” yet you count his wins over Roberto Duran as something spectacular…even though Duran fought him some 33 years after his career began.

Same about Sugar Ray. Camacho was really, really good, but couldn’t crack and egg.
YEAHHHHHHHH BUDDAYYYYYYYY
He was really good. Unfortunately like other greats (Cesar Chavez, Tyson, Etc.) drugs and partying took control over them.  You dont go 79-6 being shitty. Machooooooo Time!
One of the greats. Not in the discussion at the same levels as Duran and Leonard and other fighters he has *wins over though.Â
I always liked Macho and would go to see him fight when he was local in NYC. I was hanging in a NYC club one night and saw him and realized he was almost small. I am only 5'5' and 150 at the time and I thought he was smaller than me. He had on a red leather outfit and was the world champion at that time. what I thought was odd was he was hanging with a bunch of kids and he was fired up coming out of the bathroom multiple times. He got annoyed that one of the girls he was with started talking to us, but out of respect and not wanting to get into it, we walked. My impression was that he still had a kid mentality even being world champ. Still sad to see him go so early
