i was watching ufc last night and a thought came across my head. the show was asking people to donate money to raise funds to build a rehab building for our troops, it was good to see people tryin to help BUT! why doesnt our country build one out of our tax money? this troops fight for us! oh wait they probably goin say that we no more money right? but we can bail out financial companies worth billions and now a possible auto maker? our congress, senate or who ever makes the decision needs to get it straight! sorry, just needed to cool off. alohaz

I don't think the issue here is about raising taxes, or any other form of money. I think Kala's point is that the gov't has their priorities screwed up. Why bail out these large businesses like GM or AIG? Why not spend this money on something more sensible like this Intrepid Fallen Hero's Fund?

I am a military vet (USMC) and I completely agree. I actually was discussing this with my wife also (army). How can you justify pandering to the public to donate money in an effort to raise money for an otherwise unattainable FEDERAL medical facility for our defenders of freedom WHEN you give Billions and Billions of our money to private, for profit, companies who failed because of their own greed and stupidity. Only in America.....but it's for a good cause. May i have another Sir!
This should not even be an issue. Build the damn facility already.
I do believe that the government should be better about spending habbits and step up to the plate for our troops... However, since the government is not doing that at this time we need to step up as Americans and help give them the help they need for thier service to us.
In the future we need to hold the goverment more accountable for thier actions and spending policies. Hopefully with a new president going into office we will see some of these changes.

bismanfightclub - It's not that the soldiers have to look for handouts, some people like to do more than what is expected of them, just like the soldiers themselves. Should the VA hospitals be bigger, better, and more of them? Yes, but there will always be people that want to do more for the people that serve our country. I know during the first gulf war our battallion was guarding americans overseas from terror attacks and the families were always bringing us snacks and asking us if there was anyting they could do for us. Should we have gotten upset and said, hey this is the Govt.'s job not yours! No we ate the snacks, said thank you and did our jobs.
Did you REALLY just compare receiving proper medical care for traumatic brain injuries to getting fucking snack cakes?? This isn't about doing something extra for the disabled vets, it's about taking basic care of them that they MORE than deserve. AIG gets billions to take vacations and spa trips but the govt. can't be bothered to take proper care of the men and women who sacrifice their health to defend our country. FUCK THAT.
What makes you all think the government would NOT build this facility? Just because the UFC is trying to help do you automatically assume the government is doing nothing?
Sure, there is a LONG way to go as far as treating our vets better, but some of you are acting like the government is doing NOTHING.
Did all the existing VA facitlities build themselves?
Our congress also agrees to send them to war, but ill equip them to fight the enemy. I know of some soldiers who bought their own magazines for their M9s because they heard of rampant failure of the government issued magazines. A couple of guys had to buy their own trauma plates as well. For shame. If we put them in harms way, we should make sure they will come out of the conflict on top, and intact. I was proud to see Zuffa trying to do something for the troops.
