How important is a pre workout?

I built up my tolerance to Jack3d too much so I stopped taking it entirely.. I just started a bulk phase and want to maximize my growth obviously but does the pre workout help me reach my greatest potential or is it only a source of energy to get me through the workouts?

I don't care if I take one or not but if it will help me maximize my bulk, I'll get back on it

Pretzels with natural peanutbutter and honey about half an hour before training. Seriously I feel like I am back on cycle with some of the pr's I am making.

I don't do pre workout don't like the way they make me feel I eat an orange about a half hour before I workout it works for me great

My senseis always drink coffee before they train and they're bjj blackbelts. He told me that it's proven to give you that energy to perform for a long amount of time. All that jacked stuff has too many chemicals that sound like rocket fuel to me.
