Their first fight. I always see people on here saying that Shogun beat him twice but i thought Machida had the first 3 rounds down
Hi Cecil!
epwar - Hi Cecil!
I lol'd
I Went with the "to be the man you have to beat the man" mentality. And althought this fight keeps getting debated, I think Lyoto keeping the belt was fine.
It doesnt matter. Shogun put his lights out in the rematch and ended the controversy
I thought it was close, I have watched it atleast ten times and every time I had the first three rounds going to machida.
^^^ WTF?
I thought it was a close dec win for Shogun. I understand why he didnt get the belt as it wasnt definitive enough, but if it was a non title fight, Shogun takes it. I dont agree with the way that it is judged in title fights, but it is the truth.
Shogun got the better of the fight but using the 10 point must system (which is garbage for MMA) you could justify giving it to either man.
It was much closer then everyone always proclaims. I re-watched it a few times as well.
I'm a huge Machida fan, but I also agree that Shogun won. It was very competative and I'd love to see them fight again. I still think it could go either way. In the second fight the KO punch was almost mirroring Lyoto's counter... it looked like a few inches difference and could have easily ended up differently.
Fan of both those guys and their battles.
Leg kicks don't finish fights!
I felt like shogun didn't do enough to take the belt in the first fight. Sue me. I also didn't think rampage got much of anything done in his fight with the golden dragon.
DiazMadeMe BJTheWelshman -Kingtony87 - I thought it was close, I have watched it atleast ten times and every time I had the first three rounds going to machida.I don't know what's worse. Watching a 25 minute fight 10 times or still thinking it was close after seeing it so much.
Watch again, shogun won the fight fight but with current judging machida won 3 rounds to 2 in that fight. In a title fight rounds as close as those first two were will always go to the champion. Yes shogun won 4 and 5 by a larger margin that lyoto win the first 3 but they absolutely were not 10-8 rounds. Mma is more than just a fight it's a sport and with the sports rules that exist machida took that decision.

I have to agree with this. Shogun won the fight but Machida won the match.
Could have been a draw though.
Machida won IMO.
And NO WAY am I gonna go back and watch it again...

I think Machida won the second fight too. Early stoppage imo.
