I train with some younger guys, and like all of us when we were young, sparring is 80% of the training.
Ideally, the training ratio for me would be 30% conditioning training, 40% technique training and 30% sparring. How about you guys/gals?
I love to spar, it's like sleeping through 1st and 2nd period then going to P.E then lunch and skipping the rest of the day. Unfortunately sleeping through the moves is why i'll be a 50 year old bluebelt.
I train 4-5x a week.
We usually have guys in camp getting ready for fights lately.
We spar every day. We grapple every day and we mix it up MMA at least 3 of 4 days.
Tonight was brutal. 5 5 min rounds of boxing. 6 rounds of takedowns off cage and 4 rounds of ground with strikes and subs.
Guys prepping for fights get a rested guy every round.
100%..technique is for pussies.
0 percent. Sparring hurts
when i was last training, before my puss got all puffy, it was 50%-80%, depending on who was prepping for a fight and how close it was.
its a hell of alot easier than cardio till you puke and then drill til you cramp days
standup or smallgloves...about 20% of the time if that... some weeks maybe half, but rarely, but you can do plenty of live drills without actually going 5 minutes beating on each other.
Grappling live, more like 65-75% of the time...but training those two aren't synonymous.
I guess bout 33% of the time.
Train three times a week- first thirdof class conditioning, second third drills/technique, final third sparring and hopefully implementing what was drilled.
I spar after every Muay Thai class, usually about 4-5 rounds, but I am far more focused on technique and conditioning that sparring. Also, when I spar, unlike many guys at my gym, I am usually specifically working on one or two things (usually what we worked on in class) instead of trying to "win". Still baffles me when guys treat sparring like a fight when they aren't actually training for a fight.
Sparring was the training after a while, stand-up wise.
first hour teq. second hour 1/2 sparring
2x a day pretty much everyday..
"first hour teq. second hour 1/2 sparring"
You spar for 90 minutes??? Dude, that is crazy.

Crazy lies imo
The only reason i go to training sessions now is to spar otherwise i workout at home.
Usually 4 times per week, 3+ rounds each time.
Just boxing.
I think he meant 1/2 like 50% sparring
you know sparring at 50% of your power for an hour, maybe they take turns so they aernt all sparring for the full hour or 90mins just one ring type thing
I agree sparring in grappling training is probably about 50% or more. But in striking, I think it should be limited to 30% of the time because the potential for injury is greater in my humble opinion. MMA would be the same, and the intensity level would have to drop down to 50%-60%.
5 times a day
