Car is in getting fixed for an accident and I was provided a rental car but the insurance of the guy that hit my car. So I get in this rental car, start it and drive it off the night. Come to a stop light and notice when I accelerate the engine bucks, I am like WTF?. I drive it a while longer, roll up to a stop sign and notice when I accelerate away again the engine starts bucking. I call Enterprise and am telling them what is going on with the car. The girl says that's normal for a car with an eco engine, and the gas engine shuts off every time the car comes to a complete stop. I am thinking this engine is going to get beat up in city driving with alot of stop and go traffic, the gas engine turning "on" 15 times for a 20 minute drive home with lights and stops can't be good for the reliability of the engine right?
what car?
My car has one. There should be a button on the center console that allows you to disable the feature.
I got a Chevy Lumina LTZ, I figured out if I barely touch the brake when I stop it doesn't shut the engine off. The fuel economy and emmissions by not idling a gas engine seems like peanuts compared to the wear and tear this has to put on the engine.
I have no idea about the reliability of a Chevy, but you realize many places use Priuses for taxis, right? All kinds of stories of them getting hundreds of thousands of miles. And they don't buck.

It's just a matter of you learning how to drive it better since it feels a bit different than a regular gas engine that you probably floor off the line.
sounds like OP is FLOORING it at the green light
Doesn't seem like a true hybrid like a Prius that will utilize the electric engine more. This thing seems to run on the gas engine except when the car comes to a complete stop when running, then it switches to the electric engine. And when you hit the gas, the buckling I feel is more like turning the engine over. Has nothing to do with how hard you step on the gas.
Imagine the wear and tear if you just left the engine running ALL THE TIME as you say idling at a red light. That's got to be hundreds of hours over the life of he car

Ocean6 - sounds like OP is FLOORING it at the green lightWell it is a rental

I have it on my Malibu. It's a lease and I don't really care either way.

You turn your TV off every time you get up to take a piss or go to the fridge?
Supposedly saves fuel and there's a second battery in there. Kind of lame actually.
Lol @ "eco friendly"
These cars are worse for the economy than a normal gasoline car.

if you had to back that statement up, you'd come up with some long debunked bullshit article.

I understand huffpo isn't the end all be all. But they have reliable sources that they've had interviews with and you can't argue those facts.

As long as the engine and oil stays warm stopping and starting it will not hurt the engine.
