Weather has been shit with everything layered with ice and we have a car stuck. It's a 2012 Ford focus. I have a tow strap that I can attach to my explorer, but I'm not sure where to tie the other end to on the focus. Can only access the rear of the focus to pull it. Any way to do this safely? Thanks in advance
Usually there is a place to screw in a tow eye. Look for a small panel on the bumper that can be removed.
Wrap it around the A arm
Does that mean I shouldn't pull from behind? It starts and all, just it's sitting in and on ice and can't get out.

How much ice and how soon do you need the car? If you don’t know how to use a tow strap or tow a FWD car, I’d try things like cardboard, kitty litter, or ice-melt first.
Sounds like you need a new Johnson Rod.

I think the latter is always the place to start. Gravel, cat litter, rock salt, etc.

Like a few inches. The spot it’s in has a small trench where the wheels sit so it’s just spinning. Tried pushing but everything around is covered in ice as well and the car itself isn’t getting any traction even with that traction control crap on or off.
You guys are right. Going to get some litter and rock salt before I try some dumb shit that can cost real money. Thanks for that.
In the tool kit for the spare tire there is usually an eye bolt or hook. Then look on the bumper for a small cover that can be removed or flipped out of the way. The eye bolt will screw into there. Put the car in neutral. Pull it out.

Cool, thanks. I will look for that as well.

This
Legend has it OP is still searching for something to attach his tow strap to.
Either around the Axle, the bumper or the side mirrors.

Seeing as how it is a unibody car with no axle, I would go for the side mirrors.
Seriously wrap a rope around the bumper frame and drag it out. Have yanked out many dozens of stuck in the snow or mud vehicles.
I don’t know that specific car, but I guarantee you there is something safe to pull it with if you look around under it and use good judgement.

Was going to recommend the tail pipe, but your ideas work

Keep the front wheels straight
If you can’t find a place on the bumper that was designed to hold a screw in tow point, get a factory transit tie-down point hook set from an auto parts store and use it to attach to a factory tiedown point under the car. You can google the model to find the location. That is what most wrecker drivers would do when recovering a unibody car.

I like the way you think
Pop the trunk, run the tow strap up through the backseat and attach it to the e-brake handle.
