How to hype a fight: Chael v. Silva 2

Conor v. Khabib is the most compelling fight in MMA history. But the UFC hype team hasn’t put in the work. Nothing they have put together matches a UFC Primetime. Rewatching the final scenes from the Primtime for Chael-Silva 2 is a reminder of how hype can be done right.

In my opinion, it is.

OP I wouldnt say in history, but would definitely say recently. It's a match between a good striker vs good wrestler. IMO there are many more questions as to what Conor will do or how he will react, because I dont think Khabib will change much his winning formula.

It’s actually remarkably similar.

Silva was a great striker who had been protected from takedown artists his entire career, and the one time he fought one, he REALLY struggled, only to get a little bit lucky and fluke out a victory.

Shortly thereafter he was exposed as both unable to deal with top level wrestlers and a steroid cheat.

There are definitely similarities:

-As close to “style v. style” as high level MMA gets. Both are striker v. grappler.

-Real animosity.

-Both have a real showman involved.

-Questions about the striker’s strength of schedule in a sport dominated by wrestlers.

-Questions about injuries when the striker fought a grappler (Conor’s knee and Anderson’s rib)

Worth nothing:

-Anderson had a legit finish over Dan Henderson.

-Conor’s win over Mendes involved him getting beat down for less time than Anderson v. Chael.

-Chael was also on roids.

Anderson v. Chael was a GREAT feud with two great fights.

That, to me, it’s the most compelling?

You have a better sense of what is compelling to me than I do? Interesting.

Khabib is unknown to casual fans

Conor has lost heat from being away a long time

Style vs style like this means someone gets dominated, ultimately not that interesting. A late comeback like Anderson usually just doesn't happen

I’ve been watching pretty religiously since 2008, and this was the fight I was hyped most for.  I remember forking our a lot of money for great seats for this event.
