How was Lesnar/Mir 1 sanctioned?

Sorry if a thread was already made about this but I've never understood how Lesnar fought Mir in his second fight. Despite his previous experience in collegiate wrestling would an athletic commission sanction a fight between someone with relatively no experience in MMA against a former champ with 15 fights if they weren't weren't as high profile? Couture/Toney is another example. Phone Post 3.0

It's a fallacy. All comes down to money. Phone Post 3.0

So what if someone with a higher wrestling pedigree but lower notoriety like Cael Sanderson fought a former champ in his second fight? Phone Post 3.0

... Which shows the NFL team he tried out for made a bad decision.
That doesn't mean he isn't one of the most athletic mother fuckers to walk the earth. That dude is a specimen. Phone Post 3.0

as a walk on in his late 20s with no background in football? i would say he did pretty fucking well to get so close, and i am not a lesnar fan at all, i think he is a moron

I put a debut pro on my 6th card against an 18 fight UFC vet and my debut put a hulk smashing on the vet, point being that commissions shouldn't have anything to do with matchmaking or proving a match based on experience because rarely does any member of the commission have any kind of fighting experience to begin with Phone Post 3.0

How close was he too the first team? Not knowledgeable about American football as from the UK but I'm sure I once read he was offered as spot on an NFL europa? Team Phone Post 3.0

the Nevada State Athletic Commission derives it revenue and existence from fights coming to Las Vegas. It is not in the habit of stopping those things happening, and especially not when the company staging the fight is a Las Vegas resident owned by somebody who (i) used to be part of the commission and (ii) has huge political influence in the city/state as owner of a major casino

The Mir fight was not Lesnar's debut. He fought and destroyed Heath Herring for 3 rounds before that. The heavyweight division was also not very stacked at the time to say the least. There was nothing surprising about this fight happening. Were you watching UFC at the time?

someone said yes to Minowa vs that kid who's leg was mangled and probably permanently damaged. It works both ways, you don't want to over managemement and arbitrary fear but you need something to prevent promoters that would gladly put a human vs a Silverback wearing boxing gloves for ratings and money if they could get away with it.

He didn't have the technique required to make it and he didn't want to go to Europe. He was insanely talented physically though ad the coaches loved him. Phone Post 3.0
