How will Jones vs Machida go down?

Leave it all out there, who cares about being wrong. How do you think this fight will go down?

I think there's a strong possibility it's a five round snoozefest with both guys running away every time the other guy throws a strike.

I also think Machida is probably the toughest match up for Jones stylistically. I thought it would be a strong inside fighter like Rampage, but Jones ate him up from outside his range. Machida might be the only guy who can out kick Jones and he has stellar take down defense.

What does your crystal ball say? Phone Post

Jones can strike from a further distance making Machida's elusiveness seem like Kalib Starnes to Jones' Nate Quarry...

It won't be boring. When has a Jones fight ever been boring? Also, Machida can't stick and move so easily. He's always gonna be in countering range, and Jones can fall back on takedowns in the off-chance that he can't stand with Lyoto.

I see Jones stuggling to take Machida down, but does occasionally. The majority of the fight will be decided by technical striking with Lyoto winning with superior foot work and timing. No major damage to either fighter. Machida 49-48 split decision.

 Jones will easily win

 Jones wins impressively.

I think it will look just like he rampage fight. 3rd tko for jones. I don't see machida giving jones any issues. I think we could see jones let out some of his frustration with rashad out on lyoto Phone Post

Machida will circle and circle some more and jones will throw something stupid then blam game over by machida counter strike to the chin in the first Phone Post

What I see is exactly this:

First round starts slow, first strikes come late, from Jones. He gets countered with repeated shots on target, attempts takedown and is stuffed.

Machida is waiting on the outside, Jones tags Machida and gets countered with precision. Few exchanges, Machida lands more.

Break between rounds 2 and 3, Rogan comments: "...and this is the first time he meets such a technical striker, Mike. Now we'll find out if Jon Jones has the answer for the top level of striking that Machida brings"

Round 3, Machida lands low kicks. Jones attempts take-down and gets stuffed nice, gets tripped and taken to the ground shortly, standing right back up. Machida lands more low kicks.

Championship rounds, Machida is fresher, Jones's face is hurt but still has cardio endurance. The fight slows down and Machida scores from the outside. Jones scores a takedown or two, Machida as well.

Machida takes the decision.

Jones keeps him at distance, then gets the takedown and GnPs Machida for the stoppage in round 2 or 3.

My vision:

Machida is a classic counter striker with excellent footwork and evasion skills. I see Jones's reach being too much to handle for Machida, and him not being able to evade the long strikes of Jones. I see Machida on his bicycle the whole fight because Jones and team Jackson will implement a very similar approach to the fight as with Page. Straight forward up the middle long limb striking will prevent Machida from doing his patented pre-emptive straight right (or left) up the middle when opponent is about to attack and also will prevent him from setting up for countersrikes properly. I least see Jones softening up Machida this way for at least 1 or 2 rounds before he puts the heat on and TKO's Machida. Jones can take down Machida whenever he wants, and control him when on the ground too. IMO, rashad is a better fight since he has the 1 shot KO power and speed plus wrestling. I think Jones beats both guys pretty easy, but i feel that Rashad may have a 3/10 chance where Machida is more like 1/10. Just my opinion.

It will go to the 2nd or 3rd and Machida will get destroyed.

Machida will pull out all his techniques until JBJ defends properly or recovers appropriately, then controls where the fight takes place and physically takes over ending in a stoppage. I say stoppage more because I can't see Bones Knocking out Machida. He won't submit him unless he's really looking for a sub after he's Seriously damaged Machida. He understands that fans want to see a finish due to strikes and with his wrestling mentality, he does to. Plus it's the smart move because Lyoto is a BB. Not a World Class BB but can fend off basic subs even after hurt by strikes.

Steven Seagal will somehow be a part of Jones's destruction. Phone Post

Jones will beat machida...very badly.. Phone Post

Like some have said.. Machida is a great counter striker. He also has an unorthadox approach in his striking, and is very evasive on his feet. I think Machida presents the same problems for Jones, as he does in all his fights. He is very evasive, can change direction quickly, has exellent timing and accuracy, and is deceptively powerful.

That said, I see Jones taking this.

Machida might frustrate Jones a bit with the way he moves. But Jones just fights in a smaller octagon than anybody else at 205. And Machida's linear counters will lose their effectivness against the reach of Jones.

The one caution for Jones, will be not to get too comfortable in his striking. Keep it simple, and keep doing it. Machida's best chance for the upset, is to counter an extended or off balance strike from Jones. Jones was aware of Rampage's potential to land a bomb off the break, and did well at creating distance, disrupting balance with throw attempts, and resetting. So I believe he will have a similar gameplan with Machida, and wait for the oppertunities to come to him. Jones doesn't have to force anything here.

Jones was really mixing up his kicks against Rampage.. throwing to the legs, body, and head. This made it hard for Rampage to get set and focus on other things. But Machida's Karate background should allow him to react better to a variaty of different kicks from Jones. This is one aspect where point Karate training can be a benifit. You are conditioned to evade and counter complex strikes thrown with 100% commitment, becase the action stops after each score. The point is.. I think Jones should be a tad more conservative with his attacks, because Machida is better conditioned than most to READ various attacks. Jones, IMHO, should stick to high percentage attacks that utilize his reach advantage, without sacraficing his base.

With all of that said..

I really see this as another potential G&P domination from Jones. Machida will keep it interesting on the feet as long as he can evade and choose when to engage. But once on the ground, those elbows from Jones can end any fight. Jones also has that size and length that allow him to really cover his opponent, and he is seemingly stronger than he looks. I think Jones will throw Machida and get top position. I do not think Machida will be as durable as Rampage, and Jones can finish him with elbows. Other than his obvious Physical advantages, I think Jones' elbows from top position are his most dangerous weapons.

Jones via G&P TKO in the 3rd round.
