Not that I think these guys should or will fight right now, I'm just curious how it would go. Both guys have underrated and developing standup but are more known for their ground game/control. Obviously Islam's is wrestling based while CO's is more BJJ. Normally I would say the superior wrestler would hold the advantage but Oliveira's BJJ is absolutely suffocating and perfectly tailored for MMA.
Great fight, Charles would be the toughest fighter Islam has faced and with the best BJJ. I could see Charles catching him in a sub, or Islam grinding out a dec.
This is another BJJ vs Wrestling match up id love to see, I loved Askren vs Maia

Islam is a combat sambo champ who has been submitting guys in MMA for a decade.
Erikson vs Bustamante in 96 was wrestling vs BJJ.... Oliveira vs Makhachev in 2021 is a little different than what used to get labeled BJJ vs wrestling.
Whatever you label it though its one of the best possilbe fights to make in the UFC and has been for a couple years.
Oliveira's manager said they were trying to put it together less summer for a Fight Night main event. We could be seeing it as a LW title fight in 2022.

I mean everyone in MMA trains everything, but its a cIassic wrestling heavy vs bjj heavy styIe match up
I really like Oliviera, but he is inconsistent. He has sick ground and his standup and takedowns have improved, but he doesn't always show up in big fights. I hope he is past that, but I think Islam grinds him out.

That narrative about him not showing up has to do with the fact he started competing in the UFC at 20 years old and was in there with guys like Miller, Cowboy, Cub and Frankie when he was 21,22,23 years old.
He has only lost four UFC fights since turning 25 and one of those was the injury loss to Max, people hold that one against him too for whatever reason.
In the past four years he is 9-1 in the UFC with 6 submissions, 2 KO/TKOs and 1 decision vs a top 3 ranked fighter. I'd say he has been pretty consistent.
Khabib should run the 30-0 / Islam lottery. Say he’ll fight whatever top guy that can beat Islam. Either his boy gets a shot at the vacant title with a big win, or he has a reason to fight somebody.
