How young do you think it's appropriate to start BJJ? My daughter is 8 months, taking down her 6 month old Hapa cousin. Do you think it's because her uncle and dad are black belts so it's genetic?

holy moly, that poor little girl looks just like her mother. j/k...
lol. as soon as they're old enough to pay attention the whole class w/o running out and looking for mommy. we see them as young as 4 (but VERY RARE). usually 5-6.
Wutang wants to get started with her on his next visit.
BTW, she is an exact replica of her father.
sorry she looks like you. :)
That poor Hapa Cousin :-(
LOL! j/k
Thats awesome.
For normal folk 5-6 but didn't the Gracies just throw all the babies on the mat from the get go?
When I briefly lived in Utah, there was a guy called Spaghetti (due to his insane flexibility and unorthodox weed-enhanced guard techniques) who had a son who was about 2 years old at the time. The kid could walk but couldn't really speak in full sentences, yet, but Spaghetti would do some play jiu-jitsu with his son and got him used to some movements. He'd also watch fights on TV with his kid, and although he the kid could barely walk, he did know how to knee people in the head from side control.
So although they can't really train, yet, you can kinda get them ready for it.
When Pedro was here one time he talked about the Spaghetti guy and his insane flexibility.
His flexibility made it such that you kinda had to have a special game plan just for him. A lot of jiu-jitsu best practices went out the window when rolling against him. (Don't think you're safe when you have him in side control. His flexibility allowed him to pull off sweeps that only he could do, and this surprised the hell out of people who were not used to rolling with him.)
...
It's been a long time since I've been in Utah, and it's been a long time since I've even trained.
I don't know what ever happened to him.
