How's This Kid's Takedowns?

Raffy takedown video

He also has a new website with tons of pics and videos of him in action and with some of MMA's biggest names.

One way to make sure your prodigal son doesn't succeed in his area of talent is to make a fucking website about him ate age 9. He seems like a great kid, has all the potential in the world, but im sure his parents are insufferable and overbearing.

Yeah, there's no way a kid can be succesful with some attention or recognition of his skill at a young age.  Like the kid in this video.  I wonder whatever happened to him?  Probably got burned out and quit the sport by the time he was in jr high.

I like how people know nothing at all about the family and still make comments like  "im sure his parents are insufferable and overbearing."

Some 9 year old kid has better takedowns than me

I hope his block is full of dentists and he gets nothing but toothpaste for halloween

he has nice judo. his osoto especially looked great. he must have had a good coach.

he is also very aggressive. that cannot be taught the same way. that is what makes him so impressive imo

Anarkis -
sickdarce - They are teaching him to rely on those two very basic throws. The defense for both is very basic as well and he will eventually have his back taken when he gets older and the opponents skill level rises. Phone Post

or they will add more throws when he understands basic concepts.....

Ha Ha.  Yeah, he downs't understand basic concepts but he undersstands throws.  Congratulations, you managed to get the concept exactly back wards.

The same thing happens in wrestling.  The headlock is a match ender at a young age but rarely works in the higher ranks.  Kids are strongly discouraged from using it because they neglect to work on their basic concepts.  But don't feel bad, you relly need to be experienced and into the sport to know any of this.

I saw this guy on TV recently.  Guess he made it as a pro.  He's not one fo the top guys, in fact he struggles and struggles just about every time out, but he probably makes a decent living doing something he loves.

One example of a child prodigy getting butt loads of recognition via parental whoring actually being successful doesn't make up for the 99% of the time where the kid doesn't. Harboring talent and passion is incredibly difficult. Plastering your kid on the internet, newspaper and TV isn't the way to go about that.

I've been following my states wrestling scene for a long time. Most of the time, when you see a kid tearing it up in the younger brackets and getting a lot of attention for it, they rarely are able to continue that success throughout their career. And from my experience, 90% of the time its the parents to blame. Even the times where the kid straight quits and becomes a fuck up, its still usually the parents fault.

Wow, you guys will whine about anything. The kid has solid takedowns and his family is proud. Should his parents keep the videos locked away in a safe or something? Come on.

Little dude knows how to throw, and has met Dana and Fedor, three things none of the whiners in this thread can say about themselves.

the headlock throw, whatever the heck its called in judo, if horrible in jiujitsu. itll work now but when he gets older people are gonna take his back alot if he keeps going for it

Nice! That kid is amazing!

For every one Tiger Woods there are thousands of kids who burn out early and never live up to their full potential.

Sure Tiger has unlimited wealth but his life is in fucking shambles at the moment.

Raffy competes at the highest levels in his age group in judo, BJJ, No-gi, kickboxing, muay thai and wrestling.  He loves combat sports and loves to compete.  I know that's hard for some people to believe, but look at his face.  He lights up when he talks about this stuff.

As for "whoring" him out, that's pretty absurd.  There have been managers who have tried to get him to get a mohawk because there's a big crowd for that.  But that's not what he likes.  He is a clean cut, articulate kid who is a very good student in school.  He just happens to be a beast on the mat and in the ring.   He won't pretend to be anything he's not because a certain sponsor may want that look.  That says something about him and his dad.

Exactly.  This is 2011.  The kid has a ton of pics and videos.  Why keep those locked up?

thats nothing, i bet i could beat him......

Seriously though thats pretty damn impressive, hopefully he sticks with it.

His life is in shambles?  Because he got divorced?  Divorce is pretty common and usually makes your life better.  Other than the drama that went down with his wife and affairs what's wrong in his life to make you say that?  I'd give anything to trade lives with him and have my life be a fucking shambles like Tiger's

And I could name many more athletes with "overbearing parents that embraced a sport as kids and grew to excel without burning out like the Williams sisters, Kobe Bryant, those Gracies who have been doing bjj since they could walk, every olympic gold medal gymnast ever, etc.  Basically most athletes. Hell, most succesful cooks, artists, computer guys, etc  worked on their craft since childhood.  Just because there are lots of kids that don't make it doesn't mean that doing anything as a kid makes you get burnt out.  Just means it's hard to become great at something much less stick with it as you grow and experience life.

But feel free to fall back on the tired cliches of getting burnt out and overbearing parents that most parents use to make themselves feel better when seeing someone like this kid achieve something while their kids just sit around the house playing video games and getting fat.

If you want to see overbearing parents, go to any little league game.  Some of those parents make me sick in how desperate they are for thier kid to succeed.  They don't care about the kid's happiness.

Raffy's dad is not like that at all.  He's said many times that if Raffy said he didn't want to do this anymore, he would support that.  He exposed Raffy to many different things as a young child and this is what Raffy gravitated to.

Raffy has a future kicking ass!
