HR & Resumes

Hello everyone. I am just wondering if any of you guys know how long most companies hold on to resumes that you have sent them. The reason I ask is because I have made a new resume where I claim to have worked for a good friend of mines company for the last year. The only problem is that I have another resume out there that has me unemployed for the last four months, which is the truthful one. Basically I don't want to get in a situation where I send the updated
(fake one ) resume to the same company months later and then they realize my old one still on file. I would think that most companies don't hold the resumes for more than three months but I am unsure.
Usually I apply for insurance/financial and sales positions.

The reason I have made a fake one is because I feel that employers look negatively upon my unemployment for the last four months. Any insight or help would be welcome. Thanks

Thanks for the info
