I think that IF Matt Hughes uses the "Lay N' Pray" and "Blanket Attack" game plan, he can win a boring decision against BJ Penn
yes, that's true and it is the only way he will win.
Correct. Just like GSP did.
And then UFC can blame themselves for allowing tht kind of gameplan to win.
You reap what you... well, you know.
I don't believe Hughes will do that. He's on another level now. BJ can still win of course, being who he is, but I think Matt Hughes is PFP the best in the world, with the exception of Fedor.
Other than GSP and BJ, I wouldn't say many other people have a decent shot at Hughes though, so it should still be a great match.
BJ could also lose by "Guard'n'Tard"....just like he did vs. GSP, aint that right, Pulsy boy?!?! Good to be back, right ;p
Still, people cant seem to give up the LNP tag on someone even if it only consitutes a small fraction of their victories and even though they havent happened for ages (Hughes, Koshchek...even Arona aint as bad as he used to be).
I'm really just being a bit of a tool around GSP v Penn (as you know Wasa-B), but it also lets me breathe more when Hughes wins a slow decision.
You know as well as I do how cautious Matt will be, and that always translates to old school Matt. Unfortunately.
Usually I applaud a fighter who - knowing his own limitations - pushes a gameplan that wins. That does impress me on one level, but having seen GSP flow through guys like tenpins it was disappointing for me in such a big fight that he changed his gameplan so markedly.
GSP didnt plan to "LNP" on BJ, BJ doesnt really suck at BJJ, right, so imo they simply neutralized each other, neither did much in guard position.....so whys that GSP's fault?
Anyhow, as you are very aware, Hughes is in much higher form than ever though BJ is a fighter like no other.
I think its more likely than not Hughes will be on top for a good chunk of this fight and BJ aint Royce but Hughes should still prove how far his game has come again.
I think Hughes will have to be careful standing but only for the first round or so maybe...?
When was the last fight he won by that??? he has always stayed active in his fights... stop hatting..
Matt resorts to that gameplan in tough ones.
He wanted to play that new open game with GSP until he surprised him, so he took him down quickly, GSP made a mistake, Matt capitalized.
I don't have any idea how matt and bj is going to go this time, I just can't wait.
