lots of holes in his standup but it was hard to watch him pulling straight back from punches... a good stand up guy might use that against him in the future
respect to him for the win though, definately caught me by surprise (the move, not hughes winning)
you're right, there are a lot of holes in his standup, but that's why his wrestling is so important. he can control where the fight goes. he can keep it standing or he can slam you whenever he wants to.
I mentioned this on another thread. He has a real bad habbit of keeping his hands low and kindof crossing them over eachother out in front of his body.
He was begging to be tagged by St. Pierres straight right, like the one he hit Jay Heuron with.
I noticed that hand crossing thing too. Also, as someposted here before the event, Hughes seems to go for the takedown right after he gets hit. He did that last night, trying a very sloppy takedown.
hughes seems to have a hard time when hes not being aggressive... he should be jabbing and shooting, not mixing it up on his feet, pulling back like that
yea im nitpicking, but i was NERVOUS watching that
much props to Hughes for bustin out that smooth armbar, that being said. A bunch of you dorks thinking that GSP was gonna get rolled were off the mark. That kid is tough as nails scoring the takedown on Hughes, dominating the standup, all around great athlete.
